Cool M50 cal machine gun from scratch.

    Good day to you all,
Another perfect day in sunny Queensland and a request for a 50 cal machine gun for the neighbors son.
After a quick search on the net for a few pics of a 50 cal and a further search for the ideal pieces of wood to make the project and I was underway.
I started with a block of 3x2 and a few sticks of dowel and in a few hours it was ready for painting. The design is simple and easy to make.
I made it up as I went along, there are no plans, sorry.

    After a matt black finish.
The gun swivels 360 degrees and moves up and down.
It has movable rear sight and a lift up lid for loading.
The retracing slide handle is also movable.
The machine gun can be removed from the tripod.
It will also be mounted in the window of the new owners cubby tree house overlooking the 4 neighbors back yards.
I feel a lot safer now

Smile Yes, it's that time of the year again

    Hi again,
Just dropped in for show and tell.
Here are some simple and not so simple ideas for the festive season.
Tree decorations , a nut / lolly box table center piece and of course a sleigh with reindeer.

Back once again with another update to show off the depth of colour in the camphor laurel timber.
These items are on the painters bench after the first coat of varnish. They usually get 3 coats and will be ready for sale in a week.

Thumbs up Camphor Laurel Kitchen Utensils and the tools to make them.

    Hi again,
I've finally finished all the wooden kitchen utensils I'll be sending my son the Chef.
Some I'm sure he will use and others maybe not so much.
However it has been a steep learning curve making these items.
All the items in the pics are first attempts so some may be a little wonky.
    Mastering the
    Carbide Chip Tyre Buffing Cones
in a drill press is a bit of a challenge but with practice it can be done. Its quick and the finish is very good.
Firstly the tools I've been using:

And so to photos of my kitchen utensils. bear with me ... there's a lot.

And so there you have it, maybe a new source of revenue for the new year. I'll still make toys but I also enjoy making and creating kitchen utensils.
There is no end the variety out there. Many nationalities have utensils specifically designed for specific cooking methods, eating and presentation.
I have only looked at Japan so far.

To make them in different types of timber is also an intensive to continue making them.
    Bye for now

A great range of utensils there, love the colour in the timber.
You certainly have been a busy lad, hope your son gets as much pleasure out of using them that you got in making them.

We have a catalogue at the Camphor Laurel group which was supplied to us by a local distributor. I'll get details of the mag and post tomorrow.
Our distributor is Colin Palmer 0403048415
They are sold here on this web site below , I know they come in 3 different sizes 102mm, 76 mm and 50 mm and grit. Around $30 each I think.

    Hello again fellow wood workers,

Another busy week or two. Felled a couple of trees in the yard to allow for solar power instillation on the roof. The trees were planted by the previous owner who had no idea how big the trees would grow.
They were planted too close to the 100 year old Queenslander. A leopard tree, a tree fern, a miniature guava tree that attracts flying foxes with hendra virus and two lilly pilly hedge trees that were taller than the house and right beside the house.
Down they came to make way for more suitable landscaping and sunshine for the solar panels (5.3 KW.). I transplanted the top of the tree fern and salvaged some timber for later use.
In the work shop I was busy with some unusual orders again. The trivet was the most unusual.
    1a (2).jpg Before the carnage.
20161117_153029.jpg After the carnage. Yes a few trees were sacrificed to go solar powered but the long term benefits out weigh the loss of a few trees poorly planted.
    20161121_122931 - Copy.jpg salvaged branches . I've set a few aside for another woodworker.

And so to the work shop

    Thanks for joining me.
Tomorrow, it's off to the Cooroy Library to set up a toy display in the foyer for Christmas. It's becoming a regular event for me now. Hopefully I'll get a few sales over the coming weeks.
    Pictures tomorrow.

    Good evening,
1st. Day of Summer and only 23 more shopping days left.
Today I was given the chance to display my toys in the foyer of the awesome Cooroy Library.
An amazing architectural design. The staff fully support local artists and crafts people.
