    Hi again,
Here's another steam train I made yesterday. It's camphor laurel again. An improvement on the last one. Larger boiler, more wheels and a smoother front scoop.
It's made from a recycled failed rolling pin, a draw knob , a part of a turned chair leg, 16 cover buttons, sticks and scraps from the discard bins at the Cooroy Camphor Laurel Woodworkers.

    Dimensions: 37 cm long x 15 cm tall x 10 cm wide.
    Time to make: 4 hours
Cost: $6.00 for the cover buttons.
    Hours of enjoyment : priceless.
    20161204_081502.jpg20161204_081517.jpg20161204_081526.jpg20161204_081534.jpg20161204_081607.jpg20161204_081553.jpg

This one is going to Atticus my new grandson, pictured below with his mum. He'll grow into it.
I have a feeling he may get a little spoiled when it comes to toys.
He already has an impressive collection of wooden toys and he's only 2 and 1/2 months old.
But that is what it's all about, is it not?

    I hope you're having a good weekend

What a great photo of your daughter (or maybe daughter in law) and grandson. The loco looks fantastic too with lots of thought gone into it. Always full of great ideas.

Default Be safe this festive season.

    Hi All,
Another busy week making toys for Santa. Sometimes I think his elves are just not cutting it .
In the last two weeks I made dozens of toys for sale online not to mention the toys, kitchen utensils and Xmas decorations I've made at the Cooroy Camphor Laurel Woodworkers Group.
I've also had a few healthy sales at the local Library from my display in the foyer ( see story above ).
All in all a busy and profitable few weeks.

    20161130_150527.jpg as are these

    20161205_115402.jpg and these.

20161205_115428.jpg I hang these on a piece of natural edge timber with little wooden pegs.

6 months ago a friend of mine started an online store on facebook as well as this page https://www.pallet2play.com.au/ selling my toys and the craft work of other local artists.
It's progressing very well I must say.
We are all looking forward to a few days R and R now, starting with drinks and nibbles at the Cooroy Camphor Laurel Woodworkers Group tomorrow.

That's all from me this week.
Please have a happy and safe weekend
    Kind regards
    The Cooroy Toymaker.

As usual your artistic mind has come up with inspiring creations. The nativity scene would be very handy because it would be easy to set up and pack up.
Good to see retirement is such a relaxing pastime, looking forward to it.
I hope the sales on the website continue to flourish.

    Default Bunny Rockets

    Hello again,
It's been a busy week at the Cooroy Camphor Laurel Woodworkers Group. Our resident painter was away so I and another member stepped up to fill in. Extremely hot in the spray booth. But we managed to get 3 coats on everything despite the 35 + degree heat in the booth.

20170113_105408.jpg20170113_105417.jpg Two tables ready for painting. The round table is a repaint job brought in by a customer.

20170116_115418.jpg Sean who is normally our turner is also a very good spray painter. Spraying the mirror frame for the hall mirror

A few items I managed to make in between my painting duties.

20170119_104902 - Copy.jpg The rockets are awarded for good conduct.

Although Easter is a little way off, I'm gonna be like woolworths hot cross buns and get in early. Easter Bunnies, ready to be painted or left natural timber.

Default book ends, bunnies, bilbies, boxes, puzzles and leafy trees

    Hi Woodies,
Another update from the Cooroy Toymaker. It's been a busy week for me at the Cooroy Camphor Laurel woodworkers group. As Vice President and Secretary it was my duty to fill in for the Club President who was on holidays. I chaired the monthly general meeting, a first for me. All the while getting unusual orders and making 80 spatulas, pate knives and spoons for the Kennilworth Wine and Cheese Fair.
The other members were busy making Tissue boxes, back scratches, small and large 3 corner stools, garlic pots, rolling pins, toilet roll holders, paper towel holders, Children table and chair sets, Garbage bag storage boxes, Toilet roll storage boxes, Recipe book holders, Towel racks, 2 seater stools solid or slats, Boxes with lids, Large storage boxes with lids, Tables with 3 or 4 screw legs, Small tables as stools, Scarf holders, Chop sticks, Bowls, B.B.Q. trays, Remote boxes, Small cake trays, Kitchen utensil holders, Salt and mustard spoon sets, cheese boards, cutting boards, serving boards, Spoons and spatulas of various sizes and shapes.

It's just all go. Not too bad for a bunch of volunteers. ( Photos below )

20170221_153754.jpg20170220_135123.jpg An order from a day care center for a tree with detachable leaves. The leaves would have the children's photos stuck on them after which they would be placed on the friendship tree. Don't ask, I'm still trying to figure it out. I'll take the $50 and stay confused.

20170224_101402.jpg20170224_112724.jpg20170224_120715.jpg20170224_123258.jpg My local doctor asked me to make some small puzzles for the dementia patients at a local nursing home. These are my first attempts.
I'll make more designs and keep them to 4-5 pieces. These and many more will be donated to the nursing home courtesy of the Cooroy Camphor Laurel group.

20170228_103028.jpg20170228_103057.jpg20170228_103106.jpg20170228_103130.jpg Last Wednesday saw 15 volunteers hard at work making items for the coming local events.

    20170228_103212.jpg20170228_103222.jpg20170228_103046.jpg

The unusual requests keep coming in and I'll keep trying to have a go at them. I had to turn down the cheese board with ""Faith over Fear"" engraved on it. It must have something to do with Stilton and smelly cheese. I don't know, besides my engraving skills are non existent. Some unsuspecting woodworker in Western Australia will get that request soon.

Until next time, this is the Cooroy Toymaker signing off.

Default All in a days work

    Hi fellow woodies,

Another busy month at the Cooroy Camphor Laurel and in my own workshop. With a steady stream of orders from https://www.pallet2play.com.au/ (my online presence) I've been busy creating new nesting puzzles, trees and other unusual requests. Not to mention my new obsession of making different shaped spatulas and wooden knives with lots of colour. I hope you like the work and might be inspired to have a go yourself.

Default The Kenilworth Wine, Cheese and Food Festival 2017

    Hello again,

Here is a report about some of the recent activities of the Cooroy Camphor Laurel Woodworkers.
While some of our members were at the Lions Park in Noosa raising funds with parking over the Easter weekend, other members were busy at the Kenilworth Wine, Cheese and Food Festival.
My wife and I got up at 3 am to get there by 5am to start setting up. Other volunteers were there to help with the loading the truck, unloading, setting up, selling and packing up at the end of the day.
Although my wife Andrea suffers from chronic pain she was able to stand for hours and assist customers with their purchases. Most of the volunteers there were suffering from some ailment but soldered on regardless. A great effort by all involved. Although the attendance numbers were down from last year we still sold thousands of dollars worth of stock.

That is obviously a very energetic club you belong to with what has been produced and the enthusiasm shown in the setting up early.
How many members are in the club?

    Hi Dallas,
There are about 15 active members at any given time. We have 40 financial members .
4 -5 turn up nearly every day. We have a few on sick leave. A few members are on New Start and need to do 15 hours volunteer work a fortnight. We accommodate them too.
On a good day we can have as many as 15 working in the workshops and in the timber yard.
At the moment we are concentrating on getting orders filled, like small and large tables, kitchen bench top slabs, shelving and boxes etc.
I concentrate on toys and kitchen utensils and the occasional repair job.
As the timber slabs are delivered they are put through the thicknesser and someone has marked it for a project.
We use all the timber we mill. We sell a few slabs during the week but for the most part we have none left over for large orders of slabs for other woodworking groups.
That situation may improve over time when we have our kiln up and running.

    regards

Default A Motor Bike, Antique Chairs, Wood Shavings, Cows and Decorative Fillagree

    Hi fellow woodies,

Yes , another week of unusual jobs. It's a messy business making your own wooden wheels but well worth it when I was offered a pile of recycled Kwila timber. I paid $50.00 for 1/2 a ute full of off cuts 2 foot long. Kwila makes excellent wheels. A nice smooth finish. After a clean up in the workshops some old chairs were given to me as they were left behind by a customer who wanted them repaired years ago. Also an unfinished project by a past member. A motor bike rocker. A few more hours work and it'll be finished in time for my grandsons 1st birthday. Next week will be the Cooroy Fusion Festival in which we have a few attractions happening around the workshops. I'll post some photos of our displays and activities next weekend.

20170428_111739 - Copy.jpgThis is the pile of wood shavings under the drill press after making 30 wheels. I must think about rigging up a dust extractor near the drill press.

20170503_144151.jpg Two cows no bull. I recycle the recycled, the tail is a broken axe handle, the eyes are the shaft ends of cover buttons, the udder is the top of a cover button, the horns are the ends of bamboo skewers, the legs are short bits of dowel left over from making axles and the rest is scraps from my rubbish bin.

20170505_102220.jpg four antique kitchen chairs in need of a little TLC. Structurally sound. I might throw on a cushion to brighten them up.

20170505_102538.jpg c3377b1289643b7bfb9c6a29295cd665.jpgOne unfinished motor bike rocker. At least the plans are freely available on the internet.

20170428_100239.jpg Some scroll work to enhance a quilt box lid that will be donated to the local Quilt Club to raffle off to raise funds.

    20170427_114138.jpgTaking a few short cuts

    20170427_115441.jpg the short cuts

20170428_100303.jpg how they will be placed on the front of the box when it's finished.

Like I said, a week of more unusual requests and orders.
Well that's all from me this week.
Be well and stay safe out there.

Default Tubby the Tug Boat, Mothers Day and an odd looking dog

    Hi,
