Default The Bush Timber Mill at Ringtail Creek

I recently went out to the bush with the clubs milling team to do a story for the newsletter but managed to get more involved than I planned.
Two big Wednesday mornings over a two week period saw a lot of work done to start the new year. On the first morning the team got to work cleaning up the area and making a few pallets for stacking and storing timber. The second day the boys got into some serious milling with the Lucus Mill. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

When you get to retirement get a nice gentle hobby pottering about in the shed with a few wood shavings.

Well looks like you all got that right at least.

Looks like you all had a great time did you come away with some supplies while you where there.

I just went through this thread. I am a new member here and just lurking and learning. Just wanted to say, I feel you are very fortunate to have such a fine woodworking club. To be that successful takes a lot of work on every ones part. Thanks for sharing and please continue to share your activities.

Default My Mum had one of these

    Hi fellow woodies,
Just dropped in to post a few pics of recent activity in the shed and at the Cooroora Woodworkers Club in Cooroy Queensland.
    IMG_20140224_133145.jpg
I got a hold of some recycled pine that was made into bed slats from a local furniture shop and put this old fashioned laundry trolly together for the wife. She was very happy with the result. It goes well with our 100 year old Queenslander. It's rough as guts but it dose the job. Most laundry trollies in the 40's and 50's were hand made from left over timber and fruit crates. I've not see two alike.

Recently I got the club members to think outside the box and gave them a challenge. To make something out of bamboo. These are the results.
This month the members a making a lidded box using any woodworking discipline, and decorated to their liking. Next month I'll challenge them to make a walking cane or bush walking stick. I've had good a response so far.

IMG_20140304_151345.jpgIMG_20140304_151357.jpgI made the mug, knife and fork, the ladle and the scoop. The black bamboo is from my own back yard.

IMG_20140304_151411.jpgIMG_20140304_151429.jpg All the bamboo items went on display in the foyer of the local Library and a few items sold immediately.
IMG_20140315_130618.jpgTwo walking sticks I hope to sell to the Noosa Bush and Trail Walkers when they come to the Club in a few months to begin their 3 day trek through the Noosa Hinterland.

IMG_20140315_130644.jpgIMG_20140315_130728.jpgHere is a walking stick I've had for many years. I believe it's made from the Ocotillo cactus from the Sonora Desert National Monument

Thanks Cooroy for the photos...would have loves a dozen more of the toy display...
Those laundry trolleys were still being used well into the 1960's in Brisbane, Warwick, Redcliffe & Maroochydore; well at least by my family...
I think mum's had 4 wheels not just 2 like the one you made; thanks for the memory..cheers, crowie

Default First attempt at a little carving

    Thanks for the complements folks,
The first image is of the bamboo competition entries on display at the local Library. The Mirror and a few smaller items have sold already.
    IMG_20140320_121350.jpgCooroy Library display

IMG_20140320_223234.jpgA few small scraps of wood from the rubbish bin at the club workshops , a little hard work and this is the result.
IMG_20140321_080009.jpgThe up and coming walking stick competition is already getting a good reaction, so in the spirit of the occasion I made this very rough cane stand which will be left in the club. room.
IMG_20140321_143605.jpgThis is my first attempt at carving. The Green Man of English Mythology. I only had a Stanley knife and sand paper to work with. I think I'll stick to toy making.
