Cooroora Woodworkers Wood and Craft Show 2014
Hi Fellow Woodies,
The Cooroora Woodworkers Club held their annual Wood Show last weekend and for your enjoyment I've posted some pictures of the activities and entries in the Inter Club Competition and the Club Competition. It was a great success especially in combination with the local Orchid Show and the Cooroy Fusion Festival.
As usual the entries were outstanding. I even sold a couple of toys. Please enjoy.
All the best in your projects,
The Cooroy Toymaker

There are some beautiful and interesting pieces amongst those photos.
Do you have any indication of how many people passed through your exhibition?

Attendance record.
""Do you have any indication of how many people passed through your exhibition?""
Sorry Treecycle , I've not received any numbers yet, but from all indications it was a financial success due in part to the following.
We sold a number of slabs and other timber.
We did our own catering and made a nice profit on that.
We sold all the tickets in the show door prize raffle.
Sold well over 50 kids show bags.
And I sold some toys and other members sold a number of their items as well.
The only down side is getting enough volunteer club members to do the work to make it a success.
But this is par for the course.
We have over 120 members and I would say only a 1/3 rd showed up to help.
Thank goodness for our wives.
I'll post some numbers when they come to hand

Some incredible pieces. Thank you for sharing.
Quite an impressive show to have a third of members help out of 120. Just to have 40 people there helping.

I agree with Christos, 40 of 120 members is pretty damn good...
I do volunteer work with the local Boys & Girls Club with over 250 families [some 500 plus children attend every week] involved as members and we only get 20 to 30 people regularly helping...
The woodwork display in the show is magnificent and a true credit to the skill, ability & patience of the members....WELL DONE!!!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.........

Abby Festival Caboolture Qld.
Hello fellow Woodies,
I was asked recently to make some props for medieval costumes for the Abby Festival at Caboolture. Museum Brisbane | Museum Sunshine Coast | Brisbane Museums Abbey Museum
I did a little research and come up with these, pictured below. The weapons had to be registered with the authorities before they could be taken into the festival.
All weapons had to be left at the gate when entering the festival tavern.
At the same time my grandson was learning about the World Wars and wanted a 303 rifle. So we set about researching the 303 and designed a prototype. It's a little rough but we were making it up as we went.
It was good teaching my grandson how to use the machinery again and educating him on proper safe use of weapons, even wooden ones.
Real leather, leather thong, earrings, key rings, buttons, draw handles ( 303 bolt ) and door knobs (pommels) were used to decorate the weapons.
A couple of handles were made from discarded spindle turning that were tossed in the rubbish bin at the club. Recycling is the way to go.

Fairy Gardens are getting very popular.
Hello fellow Woodies,
I've had some success with online sales lately and a number of requests by customers have pushed me towards making accessories for fairy gardens.
Here are a couple of fairy doors I made and sold. Also an order for a special mailbox for a family member that may not even see the light of day. The customer doesn't want to put it outside in the weather. :/

I'm still around.
Hi fellow Woodies,
Just testing the waters again to see if this old page is still active.
It's been a busy year for me.
Sold lots of toys in the past few months.
There is still a demand for them so I'll keep making them till my fingers stop bending.
Just thought I drop a line to say hello again. "" HELLO ""
