Dinosaur toy builds
Used up some scrapes building some really fun projects.
I found David Wakefield’s book on Ebay and just had to build some dinosaurs, I had bought the book back in the 1980’s and built many of the projects in his book.
The last picture in the projects list was built 35 or so years ago using his plans.
One of the fun and challenging things about his builds are the moving arms and legs mouths that open and close with cams and levers.
As the T Rex moves across the floor his mouth opens and closes and his feet get in on the action.
The Brachiosaurus’s neck moves up and down as he walks around and all four of his legs move.
So their interesting projects and a lot a fun watching kids discover what these toys can do.
Here's the short blog.

Here's two I built over 30 years ago that has survived.

Thanks for the post. This post has just sparked my memory that I too have this book .... I might pull it out and look for a project to make together with my boy.

Still in Dino mod so here’s the start of the Triceratops.
I built one of these 30 something years ago and still have it.
Since all my dino’s are much smaller than the one in the picture I thought I’d give it one more try and have a full set that match up, size wise.
This will all be done in birch as I have some 2” thick scraps.
Wouldn’t take much to turn this into a hippo would it?
The head was a ton a work with all 3d cuts.

I ran out of axle pegs so built another Triceratops as I waited for them to come in the mail, changed up the head just a little so may be his girl friend?

Beautiful work! I made the T-Rex from that book and was surprised by the author's use of 2 different scales for the parts. It took me a while to figure out why the head was so much bigger than the body. I never was much for reading instructions. I applaud your choice of leaving the wood natural. I tried a water based green stain that doesn't look so good.IMG_2057 (1).jpg
