a dollhouse for my daughter
Hi all, for my daughter's 3rd birthday, we were going to give her a dollhouse. Then, I looked at the prices for anything halfway decent and (perhaps unwisely) said to my wife, "I could make her one of those". Since her grandfather had made her a dollhouse when she was a girl, she gave the command and I had to put my money where my mouth was.
My what fun it was! I bought a number of newtoystools including a cheap-as tablesaw from Aldi and an Ozito router, both of which exceeded my requirements admirably.
I drew up the design from scratch after finding nothing on the internet I really liked, and built the carcass from MDF - 19mm for the base, 12mm for the walls, floors and roof, and 6mm for the front. There were a few stuff-ups on the way - painstaking measuring twice, marking out and routing the wrong side of the base, after spending two hours putting 7 other rebates on it; measuring out all the sides and angles and gluing up, only to find that what used to be 90deg. was now 95; but fortunately nothing unfixable or disastrous.
Anyway, here it is. It has 3 floors and an attic, stands 150cm high on castors, has a front lawn, sliding windows, french windows opening on to the balcony and storage drawers underneath. My daughter was very excited opening it - so much so, her first words after pulling the wrapping paper off were "a dolls house! Now, I need some dolls!" as she looked around for the next present.
Cheers, Mike

Great work. Has turned out well.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."
