    Default Elephant Herd

    Been pretty warm in the shed the last few days so I only spent a couple of hours yesterday and an hour this morning. Half a dozen Elephant Push Toys and another half a dozen dogs were the end result.
    After doing a test elephant I was unhappy with the flex in the trunk and the possible chance of breakage due to the short grain, I overcame the flex by drilling a 1/8” hole 2” deep and gluing in a piece of dowel, little to no flex now. Approx size 110mm long x100mm high.

    Thank you, I think wooden toys are making a resurgence. Yes there is something special about wooden toys, colour, feel, scent and durability. For me it’s fun, any money I make I tend to re-invest in more bits and pieces for the workshop etc plus I can afford to give charitable donations as my time is cheap.

    Nice design and clever solution to the short grain problem. There are some clever and attractive plastic toys around - But - when left around they ‘read’ as mess. Wooden toys however, ‘read’ as picturesque.

    Furthermore plastic toys loose attractiveness with every loss of sheen and every ding. They end on the curb for council pick-up. Wooden toys grow more attractive/picturesque with the patina of age and use and end up being passed on or kept. You are adding to a legacy.
