You are doing a great job every part looks well made.

Very little done today as i had started but then had unexpected visitors so not a lot appears to have been done.

What I have managed is to make and fit both sets of brackets for the hydraulic rams to the boom and dipper arm.

The bucket also has some teeth and the top bracket to fit it to the dipper arm

Still some more to do to the main frame such as lights and the counterweight to fit before final assembly as well as a finish so getting very close now. At least that means I will be able to get back to the Rob Roy soon

I seem to have been in the workshop most of the day yet achieved very little as can be seen from the photos.

Just drilling out some dowel and making end caps, cutting the centre rods and marking up two ends. The short piece of dowel has also bee drilled in the end as that will fit the remaining two cylinders.

It took a little time drilling 4 X 3 3/8" holes down the centre of the rods at least they do run true.

Looking very good, I drill holes in a blank in the drill press held in a home made pen drilling press then center holes on lathe and turn to diameter.
So far so good. You will be proud of your work when finished.

I used a collet chuck on my smaller woodturning lathe as my bigger one has something on it and I will not use the metal lathe for wood. By using the collet chuck it keeps the dowel nice a secure a centre drill to start the hole and then switched to the drill bit and pecked at the hole keeping it clear of wood swarf I find this helps keep the hole running true to the centre.

I also drill my pen blanks on the lathe when I make them

Well the end is in sight so this will be the last post with pictures, as you can see a few pins needed and final assembly once I have applied the finish.

Next time it will be complete but it will not be seen by the great grandson for another week as he is away on holiday with his mum and dad.

Absolutely a great looking model your grandson is a lucky boy. You have done good.

Brilliant. It's been great watching progress. Thanks for keeping us along for the ride. You've certainly set a high standard.

Final photos all complete now just need to wait until the little man comes home from his holiday with his mum and dad.
