Default Farm Truck for my Fruit & Vege Man

Farm Truck for my Fruit & Vege Man...

My friendly Fruit & Vege man, Sam has been a great support and encouragement to me over the years as I've shown him the truck & vehicles I've built.

He keeps asking to buy one and I'm not into that so I decided to make him a Farm Truck as a gift..

It's based on the Toy Farm Truck in the plans in the photos...

Again, apologies for the "phony photos" ....

ONE QUESTION PLEASE Ladies & Gents.... The front shaped mudguards....

WHAT TIMBER DO YOU SUGGEST I MAKE THEM FROM as with that shape the grain will be wrong, thank you..

    Cheers, crowie

    Good one Peter

I don't think the grain would matter - I would use the same timber as the cabin side doors - just my 2 cents worth mate.

    Regards

    Thank you Keith & Rod...

The cabin timber is recycled fence paling and tends to splinter a little when worked???

I'm a little concerned about it for the mudguards??

    Cheers, Peter

If it were me then Peter - I would use some Tassie Oak. Shouldn't have problems with that. The grain would look OK I reckon. Maybe a bit more difficult to machine - what is the ID size of the mudguard ? I may be able to help you out - I have a fair bit of timber (oak) offcuts that a mate gave me.

    Regards

I like to use NG Rosewood for guards. Easy to shape, sand and smooth.

I'd be going for Ironbark, Rosewood as suggested above but I'm yet to use it, would look nice with a bit of a contrasting colour.

Looks tidy so far, I need a tablesaw(and a workbench) so I can try things like this, my toys are limited by the off the shelf widths and thicknesses generally.

Thank you Gents All.... I have some blonde Tassie Oak which I can use so I'll do a pattern of the guard and have a go, using the bandsaw & bobbin sander..
The radius of the guard is 1.25", old imperial plan..... Again thank you, cheers, Peter

You are much more skilled than me but I did the arches on my tractor with two holesaws and chopped the circle in half giving me a pair of arches.
Will your arches and running boards be one piece? If so my method wouldn't work

You're certainly on a roll at the moment, one truck after another.
Keep up the good work, they're looking great.
Did not mean to click "want pictures" on your post. Just happened to have the mouse over the button when I accidentally pushed the button.

G'Day Bruce, Nothing fancy like that you make; just some shop bought wheels from Woodworks in Texas as I have a good stock of them... Cheers, Peter
