Finish options for childrens toys
Have recently started making a few childrens toys and want to know what is the the safest finish to use. I have coloured them with some of the Ubeaut water dyes but what is the best finish to put on top of the finish.

Hi AJ.
I use water based Estapol clear (Gloss) over my toys. I was told when I started making toys years ago for kids toys it had to be coated with water based paints and estapols can't have any class 3 which is flamable. I hope that helps. Do you have photo's of your toys.
Cheers Graham,

G'Day AJ,
I either clear gloss lacquer [pressure pack can] or clear gloss polyurethane [pressure pack can] them on timber finish [3 or 4 coats] and do the same over water based paints for colour to give a harder shell for the rough & tumble of play.
Just what I do....
Cheers, crowie
PS - I too would love to see the photos....

You could also use Shellac but it is not as durable as the poly but it will seal the wood.
