    Default Fire Engine Ladder Trucks

    Hi,

Have started to make some toys for my 2 boys. But being out at Charleville means you have to be innovative. I have attached some photos of 2 fire engines that I have made out of recycled cypress pine floorboards. I glued 3 floorboards and a stack at either end together with an expanding pva glue and drilled holes through the boards and used 8mm dowel to hold it together. Once dry I ran it through the table saw, bevelled the front on the top and bottom. On the back stack I glued a circular piece and left the dowel protruding above as an anchor point for a rotating and lifting ladder. The ladder was made out of strips of cypress pine and 8mm dowel. Wheels were made with a wheel cutter and a chassis made out of plywood offcuts. Wheels are connected with 8mm dowel. It is amazing what you can make when you have to improvise.

    See what you think.

    Todd

Well done. Improvisation is necessary in this toy making. Now you have put your foot in the water you are on the slippery slope.

This toy making is addictive but so far I have been able to dabble in woodcarving, pens, tool making and off course i always get dragged back to the toys One of the good things about toy making is you have to utilize some skills which are used in other woodworking areas. Plus you have the benefit of having two happy little clients.

    Pete
