Fire truck
Hi lads, started a firetruck today.
Started the first cuts:
Attachment 212437
Next where the front fenders, always a bit tricky because of the angles involved. I started with drilling a 57mm hole in a 30mm thick piece of pine:
Attachment 212438
Next i split the piece:

I than cut the angles to make it fit around the body, the rear fenders are made the same way:

Next i started thinking about the ladder i wanted to make on the rear deck, i fiddled around with a few ideas but came to the conclusion that the deck was to high. Right, better lower it a bit so! I must say it does look a lot better now. The wheel is going to be the rotating base for the ladder mount:

Time for the side boards now, they are made of a piece of oak i had lying around but i think ill re-cut them in pine, it looks a bit out of place:

More to follow soon!
Regards,
Dirk.

Hi Dirk looking forward to the next lot of pictures or your fire engine !..... Great job.
Are there any unique timbers that are only found in Ireland, I have never been there but it looks a very beautiful place and I love the Irish culture and humour, which in some ways is like that of the Australian people maybe because a lot of us are decendants of Ireland.

Thanks guys!!!
Did another bit today, started with the ladder:

Attachment 212574
Next i started to play around with ideas for the firehoses. I wanted 2 what can been reeled in and out. The first 2 holes are 9mm the firehoses will sit into this. The aft bulkhead has 5mm holes to enable the string to pass through but prevent the spouts. Its a bit hard to explain but apparently a picture says a thousand words so here we go:

Wheels where the logical next step so here we go:
Attachment 212578

Attachment 212580
They are 57mm in diameter.
M.T. Im working solely from an idea in my head, if you like it Id be happy to draw up a set of plans for you no problem, just let me know.
Colbra, timber wise, nothing I can think off no. We have millions of acres of Pine and Ash but thats it.
Regards,
Dirk.

Thanks Guys!
Had some time again to start sanding and glueing.
The wheels where sanded using a 6mm bolt, some washers, nut and a drill, just hold the sandpaper against it and start the drill!

Right time to add some glue:
