    Default Garbage truck

Not done a lot in the workshop been just too hot here to work in there. So the Rob Roy is on a go slow so not worth posting what I have done.

But the good news is I have been playing with wood the last couple of days and started a little wood project Yes I know not everyone's taste but a garbage truck, refuse truck, dustcart depends on where you come from. This is a request. Spent yesterday cutting the wood down to rough size and then putting it through the surface planer and thicknesser. Today made a start on cutting to the correct size ready for assembly well the chassis and cab at least as you can see a very very rough sketch of the rear section as that will be made as I go.

The truck cab and chassis is based on a mercedes toy truck plan that I have and have already made two different ones of in the past.

So this is where I am as of today

    Thank you guys.

Spent the day gluing and clamping bits and pieces together for the cab. Spent more time waiting for the glue to dry before doing the next piece so spent time in the garden.

Anyway a couple of photos of the progress and what is left to be glued up before the main body section can be started. I have made the chassis longer for this build. I also added a rear seat

After a morning of going down town to visit the Doctors surgery as the found some problems with my last blood test so a repeat blood test needed just in case it is a false alarm, followed by a little shopping that needed doing I managed some time in the workshop before watering the garden. Have now done enough for the day try again tomorrow and see if I can assemble the chassis.

Seems to be a little slow on this build.

The cab is almost complete the major glue up done
    DSCF2656.jpg

Work on the blank chassis frames started as well as cut some strengtheners for the axle pins

    DSCF2655.jpg

Looking at the chassis members I felt they needed a little slimming

    DSCF2660.jpg

All slimmed and now laid out the second photo shows where most of the parts will go just need to make a couple of spacers before the chassis glue up

    DSCF2661.jpgDSCF2662.jpg

Placed the cab on the chassis members as well as the wheels pleased with how the slimming of the chassis turned out does not look so flat sided

Not that quick Keith. Had to remake one of the chassis sides I stuck one of the axle strengtheners on and went for a cuppa and i could not have put a clamp on correctly and the part slipped sideways. Anyway as I had prepared more wood than needed I had a piece the correct thickness and length so remade and back into the build

Luckily glue today is pretty good at grabbing and strong enough to move on and glue another piece (unless you go for a coffee) Finally got he strengtheners glued in place and holes drilled right through followed by the cab glued in place on the chassis clamped and checked before another coffee once it was dry enough to remove the clamps the tail board was fitted as well as a start on some of the little details I will try and fit the light clusters tomorrow as the assembly is drying as I need to sand them once fully dry.

The wheels are not yet glued as I want to seal the model before they go on

Sorting out the wood for the rear part of the truck this is a case of make it up as I go working only from what is best described as a "Back of a cigarette drawing" and yes I did use to have that bad habit but packed up in 2003

No Peter only a few days of what we call hot otherwise comfortable in the new workshop unlike the old one which got really hot even in a mildly hot day.

This is all that I managed today as this part is make it up as I go and cut bits in some type of order so that the next bit can be measured against the first and so on, but I think I have got there now to get it all glued up

    DSCF2675.jpg

Started the glue up one piece at a time for part of it as it will not take being handled too much but as parts are added it will become stronger

    DSCF2676.jpg

The main body however could have more than one part glued at a time this is the second glue up for this part the small piece in the middle will become clear as to what that part is for later on

    DSCF2677.jpg

Second glue up on the small section and third one on the main body all this has taken all day with plenty of coffee breaks while glue dries.
As can be seen clamps everywhere should start to look like something tomorrow after I have been food shopping with the good lady

Well that is another toy made.

The truck is complete ready for the new owner. Made mainly from Tulip wood and some mahogany with the odd piece of walnut.

And now the divider I put in the back can now reveal that it is for the money box section

That’s very clever adaptation of a good toy truck plan Derek.
Looks realistic and very playable, top marks sir

    Top work Derek.

    Don't mention mistakes.

I made a real blue on my second bogie of my loco and am still rebuilding it. 10 hours of work later and still not finished the second bogie. All good fun.

Another great build by you - congratulations

    Regards

    Keith
