They look great David.A lot of work has been put into these giraffes by the look of things.
Just a small question from an old guy_ where do you put the money in,and how do you get it out again

The money gets inserted into the mouth and then slides down throat slot into the stomach which has perspex on either side and mine is held in place with one small screw. You can use circle cutter to make a plug hole in base to remove money but I haven't been able to get a plug the right size to fit well. Plus it would make it too easy for children to remove money and spend rather than learn to save. Will include a few pics of 1st finished one I made and also 2nd pic of throat slot. You can see that the body is made in one piece then split at base and mouth so the slot can be cut and then re-glued. Lots of fiddly steps but will be great to see them all finished.

The giraffes are a great idea. I often make money boxes for kids and I think I will have to pinch your idea........
If all those giraffes are for your grandkids then your lot are good breeders!

It must be frustrating to them to not be able to get the money out easily, though.

I've looked at different ways of putting a plug in the base to remove money like in a piggy bank but haven't come up with a better way of doing it. Does anyone know if plugs for this type of thing are available or do you have to make your own. 1st plug one I did was not all that successful - made out of wood and held in place with screws. Thought about bath plugs and the like but still too easy to remove and don't look all that good. Any thoughts?

What about notes?

Will they get stuck in the throat or will there be an alternative ...... thats assuming that the kiddies will get notes though....

I had not given that a thought but you make a good point. Will investigate it further as it would make removing one of the perspex panel obsolete.

Not so sure it is designed for notes at all. It is a coin money box which will take 5,10,20,$1 &$2 coins. 50c pieces are too large to fit in throat unless you enlarge Giraffe in size to allow a deeper slot cutter to run on inside of throat without cutting all the way through.

All delivered last night ready for Xmas - everyone very happy to get them in time to wrap up and put under tree. Good way of teaching young ones to save money. Call out if you need any help. Main thing is to read the instructions and follow them step by step. Quite easy to get ahead of oneself and then like me have to kick myself umdeen dozen times when I discover I had glued the hips on 6 bodies before I had rounded them off on router table. Hard work rounding over with sandpaper and wood rasp after the event has gone to far.
We got there that is the main thing. Probably find me dong more in the near future for Birthdays and the like.
