Thanks for your comments Derek.
Yes - I think we all get a bit sad when we spend a lot of time on something and it is nearing closure. I reckon the painting will take me a fair while yet though. Then I have to make up the tracks and sleepers as well as the ballast. Still a fair bit of work to go.
I am looking forward to my next build as well though

Keith it really looks top notch in undercoat grey. Love you 3/4 head on picture.
The only thing that is not quite right, and not sure if you can do anything, is to have a keeper for the vacuum hoses other wise it is not going anywhere.

GNR Stirling Locomotive
So breathtaking. The sense of satisfaction to have achieved this respectful and beautiful reproduction must be substantial. Well done mate. Such a truly stunning machine.
I believe I speak for others when I say what a privilege it is to have had the journey shared thus far and in such detail!
I look forward to seeing her beauty fully revealed when she's adorned in full livery!Steve

Yes Keith, This train project is surely heading for tracks.
I thought that it would have rolled, or at least a little.
I hope the photos that folk have sent help to bring it alive in a most beautiful way.
Cheers, Peter.

Thanks Peter,
The support of the members of the Forum providing photos and links has been magnificent. I thought I had exhausted my photos and information and then someone comes back with photos I haven't found - it's great. The time people put in looking for information for me is mind boggling and TRULY appreciated - THANKS
Regards

This video shows the colour as I remember her in 2008. I understand that you're going with Brunswick green but this might help you see what the actual loco looks like in full light.

Steve,
Thanks for the links to the videos - most appreciated.
Well I have started the paint work.
I am experimenting on other prepared timbers before I work on the real loco. This will increase the paint time significantly - but really time does not matter.
I have also been playing around with pinstriping. Never done it before - but pretty happy with my the trial outcomes - if interested - I will post some photos of the trials ???

Pinstriping is certainly a high level skill. I have someone I know if you need guidance.

Hi All,
Well this is the first little bit of my paint job on the Stirling. Still need some extra coats on the red on the buffer plate. Then I will give it a white pinstripe around the edge.
The coupling hook and buffers I sprayed painted with an automotive paint - coloured "Pewter". Not cheap -but I reckon with the amount of time put in already - cost doesn't come into it. I am wondering whether to "weather" it by adding rust. It is quite easy to do by mixing up a red oxide "wash" and putting on "heaps" of coats to give the rusted look - or do I go with the pristine metal look.
Also below is some playing around I did on some pinstriping. This piece is similar to the guarding on the front bogies.
Cathie made a nice comment - she said "it's bringing it to life" - she is a good wife.
I am really happy with the limited paining I have done - but gee it's time consuming.
I have made up a brush stand - each brush has it's own position and is only used for one paint colour. (Been caught before where I have "cleaned" a brush and then the colour from a previous painting "miraculously" leaches to the next colour - invariably black into a lighter shade)
Regards
Keith
