Hi All,
Hope everyone had a good Easter.
Been working on the cabin controls. The copper feed lines to the main pressure gauge and vacuum gauge were pretty hard to get the correct bends. Just sitting there at the moment. Next step is to paint the cabin wall and then secure all the controls into their final position.
Regards
Keith

Absolutely mind blowing work and unparalleled attention to minute details.....love it.

Looks great. I think I have worked out what each of the valves does, but I am not 100% sure. I will be watching to make sure that the blower line goes down the left side of the boiler to the smokebox though.
I do know the engine is set up for right hand drive, despite the balanced or double handled regulator.
Top green for the next part.

Hi all,
Mucked up on my paint colour - tried to match a photo to get the correct colour - but way too bright. I found the colour that I used on my original Lion locomotive looked pretty close. Hadn't even considered that colour even though it was staring me right in the face - getting old. I think the British may have used a standard colour green in their earlier locomotives.
The colour chosen is called "Brunswick Green" and it looks a bit like the "British Racing Green".
I have secured all the components on the main front of the cabin now and also inserted the glass windows. The retainers for the glass are made out of 3mm MDF.
Next step will be making the "Forward / Reverse" lever on the driver's side of the locomotive.
I am quite happy how the paint has come up and has given me a lot more confidence on how the livery of the locomotive will look.
Best Regards
Keith

Albeit from memory, I feel these images are pretty close to the correct colour on the restored loco at York

Thanks
Seems to be a number of different versions of the shade of green
Will stick with the "Brunswick Green" - I think - similar to the first link you provided

The curator thought the item in the collection was not the right color as he had a color photograph.
Over time though colors may change. If it looks right, it probably is. If some one can say that it was a different color in 1880 because they remember seeing it, then they are very special.

On one episode of the British documentary, 'Restoration Man', a couple restored the steam train era water tank at Settle to be their home. The water tank home was to be kept externally true to its history and so a lot of research was done into its colour scheme. The cast iron tank walls were painted in historically accurate green, red and cream and the green was.......... Brunswick Green.

Hi All,
I have been working on the Forward / Reverse mechanism in the cabin.
Sketched up the ratchet and then cut out the teeth on the bandsaw. Then filed and sanded them. I then cut the ratchet longitudinally so that I had exactly the same pitch of teeth on both sides of the lever mechanism.
The lever assembly is made predominantly from aluminium. The spring I made out of 1mm soft wire wound around a piece of 3mm wire.
Next will be the cabin flooring and also the method of attaching the tender. The tender is as long as the locomotive and has 6 sprung wheels.
Regards
Keith
