    Default KIDS MONEY BOX

I made this money box for one of the grandkids. This was an exercise in cutting compound mitres and building a simple jig to help assemble the 12 pentagons.
The bottom is fitted with a round recessed piece that is held in place with strong rare earth magnets. They just have to twist the piece to disengage the magnets.dodec3.JPGdodec4.JPGdodec1.JPG
The box is made from Black Bean and is finished with Danish Oil.
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

A great money box indeed and a good exercise in cutting accurate angles.

I bet that took some time not only to cut but assemble as well

A great result from some very accurate cutting.
I have this mental image of about 27 blokes helping you assemble this with a multitude of clamps all over the place. Must have been quite a challenge getting and keeping everything in place.
I like the idea of using magnets in the base.

    Very cool moneybox.

Impressed by how accurate and tight your joins are.

I too would be interested in pics of the glue-up.

Thanks for the comments. I did not take any pictures during the glue assembly however here is a picture of the jig that was made to help in the assembly. I bought a digital angle gauge that reads to 0.1degrees and this jig has been made to 116.6 degrees inclusive.

Adjacent pentagons are clamped to the jig and the glue allowed to set. This is then repeated until the last piece is in place. There are a few moments when you wish you had a third hand but it works.
Here is a good video showing how it is done.

Hope this helps those willing to tackle one of these.
