I know that feeling and certainly feel for you. I know this is probably a silly question is there any reason you could not have applied 3mm MDF either side to bring it to the correct thickness or was it a case of you had painted before you realised

All the same great job as always

    Hi Derek,

The 6mm was more true to scale compared to the 3mm.

Thanks for your comments - love your work on the Rob Roy.

    Regards

    Keith

What I was trying to say is that you made the incorrect one 3mm MDF 19mm pine and 3mm MDF by adding a 3mm either side which would have meant 3mmMDF(new piece) 3mm MDF old piece 19MM pine then 3mm MDF (old piece) and finally 3mm MDF ( new piece) which would give a total of 41mm which would be the same as your first boggie.

Not that it matters now as you have remade them

No worries mate as you say down there. I am sure I have done the same and missed the obvious easy route to do something. Keep up the great build following as always

    Hi All,

Both Cathie and I have been crook, so progress stalled on my locomotive. Not allowed out to get materials so no progress for a while to come. I have machined up the axles, wheels and bearings and fitted them all together. The wheel bearing covers have been made and I included VR (Victorian Railways) casting marks on each of the caps. There is plenty of detail to these locos even though some people may regard them as boring. I am now sorting out the braking system (quite comprehensive and confusing from the photos I took at the Railway Museum) All part of the fun. Hopefully back out in the shed by next Thursday.
Here is my progress on the bogies so far -

Take care both of you. What with you two and Peter unable to do anything in the workshop I will miss any build progress or new builds until you all are fit and back in the workshop.

Not the best thing being ill and machines as they do not mix.

I will look forward to your return to the build and will just have to satisfy my need by getting on with my build

    Get well soon.
There is nothing more frustrating than been unable to make progress on a project when you need to give it a rest due to ill health.
Hope you and Cathie are back to full production soon. Lawn bowl season must be about to start?

Thanks Kevin. We are on the mend.

Bowls season is upon us. Practice matches organised and Pennant starts in one month. Comes around quick although we have been bowling all winter on our synthetic greens.

    Regards

    Hi All,

It's been quite a while since I posted but I have been continuing work on the diesel bogies.

It's been fiddly work and pretty time consuming making up the 16 sets of brake shoes and assemblies for this locomotive. Even though there is not a lot to see from the outside. it is quite satisfying building this diesel loco. Next part is to build the actuator that operates the brake assemblies.

    Keep safe

    Hi All,

I have been making the brake cylinders for the diesel. There are 2 of these. Centrally located on the diesel main support channels on each side of the locomotive.
I am using 40 X 25 X 3 Aluminium channel as my main locomotive support channels.
The cylinders are made out of PVC pipe. The end flanges are 3mm MDF. The gaskets are 2mm cardboard. The clevises are turned out of solid aluminium and then milled in my milling machine.
    Coming along OK
