The chassis is coming along just great. I find it interesting at where you can find materials from to make the models, I have a box of odd bits that I think may come in handy for future projects. The problem is that after a while I have a sort out and throw some away to find that a week or so down the line I need the piece I binned

    Hi All,

I have been working on the framework for the top of the locomotive. The side sheet panelling will sit flush on the locomotive (I will be using 3mm MDF as my panelling so I have cut 3mm deep recesses in all of my framework. The grill work you can see on the side and top of the loco has been made by cutting pine 2mm thick on the table saw. I have then glued 2mm spacers between each plank. I painted all the timber before assembling the grill work. The lights are made from the ends of small torches bought at a $2 shop. I had to purchase a 30mm forstner bit from Total Tools to drill the holes for them. I don't think you can ever have too many different size forstner bits. They are invaluable.
    Happy with progress so far.

    Hi All,

Bowls season almost over, so a fair bit more time is being spent out in the shed.
Did some research on V Line colours and found the grey is PL109 and the Orange is PL110. A bit of trivial info there. However, part of the enjoyment of model making for me is the research part.
If anyone needs to do any painting and wants a good masking take - thoroughly recommend the following -

    32.jpg
It's available at Bunnings and does stop paint seepage.

I have had quite a few trial and error works on trying to get the air vents looking realistic. I finally am happy with the outcome. It's slow work but satisfying.

Happy with my locomotive progress so far.

    Keep Safe everybody

Looking good and the vents look good from here. Keep up the great work

I can still imagine a fine gentleman who was a great modeller(who is missed dearly on here) posting "Oh look a brick on wheels"

    Hi All,

A bit more work on my diesel locomotive. The sides are now fitted. I made up the front handrails out of 4mm mild steel rod. I welded the handrail sections together using my Ozito arc welder. I purchased this over a year ago, but checked out the price at Bunnings and they are still only $89. It is a great acquisition to the workshop even though it is not used frequently. Don't know how they can make them for that money. I have taken a photo of the box for anyone interested.

Here is a photo of what I am up to on the loco. I have just started work on the cab.

    Hi Derek,

Have a bit of detail on the interior of the cab. However its pretty boring. Cabinets etc. Not like the footplate on the steam locos. That being said, I am really happy building this locomotive. One of the more enjoyable projects I have done.. Thanks for your comments guys.

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi All,

Have been doing a fair bit of work on my locomotive. Working on the cabin at the moment. Nearly finished the exterior and have commenced work on the interior control cabinet, seats etc. I have done a bit of glazing but won't install the glass on the side windows until after I have fully fitted the sides. Have had a bit of trouble with my glass scoring tool. Looks like I will need to buy a new one as it is only scoring the glass intermittently. If you do any glass cutting - make sure you use ample mineral turpentine as the lubricating agent on the glass. The windscreen wipers were made out of aluminium flat, aluminium round and mild steel wire. Am now working on the cabin end handrails and also the numbering components on the loco. The number of my loco will be Y122. Happy with how this whole project is progressing.

    Best Regards

    Keith
