Mag Wheel
Well ive been busy for a few weeks now cleaning up the shed to make room for the new lathe and a new work bench for the rat rod. Got the lathe mounted then worked a bracket for the motor, once done i fitted a switch to the front for easy access. I decided for the first test i would spin some 25mm thick aluminium i cut on the waterjet to 42mm dia. First i spun it to 40mm dia then marked out and drilled the holes, then placed in lathe and proceeded to turn to desired shape. Once done i gave it a rub with scotch brite pad then polished it with rag and brasso. It didnt come up to bad seeing i havent used a lathe since i was 16 years old at school, i did come in the top 10 in nsw in metal work. The aluminium was a little off cause the waterjet head was out off aligment but good enough for a test.

Top job Scotty,
The lathe looks brand new and you surely haven't lost what you learnt so long ago.
Are they going on the RatRod?
Hoping your Christmas day with family & friends is going well.
Christmas blessings, crowie

Thanks Guys and all the best for today,
I did cut some 102 dia x 32mm aluminium blanks also with the idea of putting on the rat rod so ill see how i go maybe one day it will show up sporting a nice set of mags. I have the father inlaw over tomorrow he was a fitter and turner for 50 odd years so i will be asking for some advice on tooling and sharpening and any other hints that will help. The lathe is actually a 1938 model Myford which the guy i brought it off resprayed it and restored it but suprisingly it is in very good condition for its age and the dead centre and chuck off my timber lathe suit it seeing there both pommy lathes
