    Default Market Day

    Hi,

Well, went to the markets. Didn't sell any trucks but added to the existing orders I had. Now have 8 trucks on order. One thing I realised was that I needed to have some variety in what I was selling. So I have made a couple of petrol tankers and a jet fighter from Marshall's book. I have made the tanker changeable so the tank can be removed to make it into a flat bed trailer. After discussions with a few people I think I may adjust my prices. Photos attached of tanker and plane.

    Tell me what you think.

    Todd

    G'Day Todd,
Very cleaver how you've adapted the flatbed trailer with the tanker; well done.
The fighter looks great; you've made the wings a bit chunkier; looks good.
I've seen some blokes with stalls at the local market in town and they do have a wide varity of toy & prices.
A while back I was talking with one of the blokes who said that he's worked out that he only get less than 50cents an hour for his efforts.
    Cheers, crowie

Please do not be offended by this.
I think that you could improve on your models by
    a. matching wood grain
    b. matching wood colour
    c. re-sanding the burn marks left from power sanding
    d. careful gluing so as not to get excess on seen surfaces.

You say you might re-look at pricing - That sounds like you may be pricing a little high for what you offer. By improving your models you may not have to reduce and get your asking price.

I offer this advice to encourage - not offend.

    regards, Ned

    Hi Ned,

No dramas - all comments are welcome. The airplane has not been finished - still needs sanding, cleaning and finishing off. The plane was the first one I made and it was to see how difficult it would be and as such I used off cuts. The real ones will have better timber.

Todd I just sent you a post on your tow truck and I started to have a look at what else you had been building.
I see here you are selling some things at the markets I was wondering if you have some plans or books on making these wood toy/ models, there are several around that would be just great for making these cars and trucks and auto motive plant. A very popular one is, The Great All American Wooden Toy Book by Norm Marshall
The other one is, Realistic Construction Models You Can Make by Luc St Amour Away from the car and trucks that you could sell there are other books on wooden games and whirligigs if you need any help with things I am happy to do so.
There are lots of like minded people here to help you as well good luck with the markets.
PS I see that you do have Marshall's book I won't edit it out you would get the general idea of my message.
