Mercedes Truck
As I said three builds this is the third after preparing some of the wood.
I sat indoors and marked out a pile of wood for all three (see other posts for those) this is the small pile marked out ready to cut.
So the Mercedes Truck begins

I also have two draws full of different woods and dowels for the three projects a picture can be seen in Old 99 post

You've built this truck before I think Derek....
I'm looking forward to this one, Cheers Peter

Yes, Peter but the first one I modified this is being built as per the plans.
As with the other two projects more cutting out. This is the bulk of the parts for this one but still some smaller pieces to do

I am now going to sit down for the evening and try to complete a bowl I started but had to wait for some finishes to arrive

Drilling holes seems to be the main thing on this one as it is easier to do them before assembly and the first glue applied as can be seen on the right with a clamp attached

At the end of yesterday, this is what my bench looked like all three sitting there

The seats just placed in position

Ended today by glueing the front panel in place and sorting out the parts draw that is the one with lots of wood already cut to various thicknesses.

Just a little glueing up is about all I have done on the truck but it is surprising how quick this build is going. And take note that the wheel is on the correct side

and with the front lower panel in place

Not much done today on the truck had to sort out some 1/2" stock for the flatbed rails this meant getting the machines out again so while they are out I did some stock for the loco wheels.
Anyway rails sorted and drilled with a smaller bit ready for tomorrow to drill to correct size after attaching them in place with double-sided tape which helps line all the holes up.

Started today by cutting and sanding the end of some dowel to 2" these are for the bed of the truck. I put a piece of wood in the lathe chuck and drilled a hole so that the dowel just fitted in easily so that I could sand the ends and round them off slightly.
I could put them in and take them out without stopping the lathe this made the job go very quick.

With the side pieces which I had drilled undersize the other day attached them with double-sided tape to the bed and drilled the holes right through to the correct size
20200602_173310 (1024x768).jpg
Glued up I used some thin wood to get the protrusion top and bottom all to the same height
20200602_175248 (1024x768).jpg
Also glued in the roof supports as these were the same diameter and length as those on the bed of the truck

Getting close to finishing this one still need to turn some wheels

All glued up except the wheels which will be done once I have applied the finish.

There was a small change to the exhausts instead of just two pieces of 1/4" dowel I added some silencers which could be glued to the rear of the cab making them much stronger.

Need to clear the decks now to apply the finish
