Think I'll pull up a seat for this one too. It's great to see the different ideas and methods being used by our model and toy makers. Everyone is unique in their own way and its inspiring to watch.

Looking Good Mike. I spy some hardwoods on the side there. You just keep adding details. It becomes addictive doesn't it. I kept wanting to add more stuff to the Scania but at one point figured I would be working on it forever if I didn't stop. HeHe

    G'day Fozzy,
If you do plan to do some track,
ask Bret about the website he found to help with his train project as he got some ideas for track templates off of it.

At 6.5 feet already with only 3 cars started, this may be bigger than I anticipated.
As for tracks, maybe for display purposes..I had considered making enough for a complete layout.
Handrails....I can't decide on using dowel and steaming it,or taking some aluminum coat hanger and making them from that

    Fozzy,

As much as the steam bent wood would be, the faster more efficeint way would be the coat hanger or some scale model brass rod from Hobby Lobby. They come in 12" lengths x 1/16". That is what I am going to use on the Steam train.

Seeing the finished project on tracks, would be fantastic.
I would go with steam bending some rectangular timber for the tracks.
But that is just me, as an old boat builder.

    Great work.

Mike are you using photos for reference or are you just pulling this out of your head? It is starting to look really good.

It's looking awesome so far!! I think what's missing in the front and making it look somewhat unbalanced, is the railings. All of the big block trains I've seen like that, had wraparound railings on the very front and leading up the stairs.

Also if you're still working on your train car axles, Bret posted a video awhile back that had a train exhibition and the axles looked like what you were trying to do. You might get some good ideas from that. The scale was close to yours.

Looking really, really good though!! Will watch for more!
