Default Mining Dump Truck “CAT” for Boys & Girls Club Guessing Competition Fund Raiser….

Mining Dump Truck “CAT” for Boys & Girls Club Guessing Competition Fund Raiser….

A Father’s Day “Fund Raiser” was missed this year so I was asked to make a vehicle for an “end of term” Fund Raiser; a big truck that’d hold a lot of lollies [candy] for a “Guessing Competition”.

I decide to give myself a challenge and do a scratch built mining dump truck.

I found an old “Richard Blizzard” in a magazine and used the basics of the “dumper” to get an idea of the shaping before making a rough template to suit the timber I had available.
I’ve used a mixture of spotted gum, red gum, western red cedar, recycled hardwood, marine ply, merbau along with various shop offcuts.

The truck is 18” [450mm] long x 9.5” [240mm] wide x 10.5” [270mm] high weighing 5.3kgs [11lbs] taking over 40hrs to complete. I even made something like a proper chassis to try to keep the truck lighter.

The finish [3 coats] is my home made wipe-on-poly of 30% Tung Oil, 40% Clear satin Polyurethane, and 30% Mineral Turpentine mixed together.

I’m very thankful to the local Westrac Caterpillar dealer who supplied the CAT Decals which really help to set the truck off.

It’s hoped the truck with it’s huge load of lollies raises a good amount to money towards the clubs gymnastic equipment for the some 500 children who participate weekly in this local volunteer based community club.

Excellent work there Peter, well done!
I like the way you scaled it to suit Handy; I reckon his grin has gotten a little bigger!

Top job yet again Crowie. Love all the little details you have included and the choice of timber really suits the truck.
All you have to do now is to prevent young Handy from pinching some of the lollies.

I hope your efforts are well rewarded with a bumper result in the fund raiser.

Thank you one and all for the support & encouragement....
I almost didn't want to let this one go, but it should be a good "fund raiser" for the Boys&Girls Club, so all good.
    Cheers, Peter

Good news, the clubs equipment account has been raised by a little over $270,

with a very happy "Smooth Mover" who has a couple of grandsons who will enjoy playing with the truck...
