    Default Model T Tanker Car

    Hi,

My great nephew has his first birthday in a couple of weeks so I thought I would make him a wooden toy. Then I thought while I am at it would make 2. Plans came from Norm Marshalls Great Book of Wooden Toys.

The engine block is Victorian Ash, the chassis base and wheel arches are silky oak and the rest is pine. I made the decals Jackson Oil in Microsoft Publisher putting a blue star with an oval superimposed on it and then a text box in the oval. Printed it out and cut it out and then PGA glue onto the tank. Put a thin smear of glue over the top of the decal, let it dry and then the first of 4 coats of clear varnish.

Have rounded the sharp edges to make it a bit safer for young Jackson. Ready for some rough play.

    Thanks for looking.

    Todd

A great couple of trucks and many years of play in them now the hardest part is who to give the second one too or is it being kept as a spare just in case of loss or damage.

Great to see you back making toys Todd in the cold winter of Ipswich too...
The truck has come up a treat and will be driven everywhere..
    Cheers, Peter

Looks like a fun project. And one that I would love to have a go at.

I noticed that the book is American, did you have any issues metricating it? Or were there two (2) sets of dimensions ie Imperial and Metric?

Thumbs up Norm Marshalls Great Book of Wooden Toys.

I had his book way back in the 1980's and made many of his toys.
The crane on the low boy was scratch built from measurements I took while working on Harris Dam in Alabama.

    Hi Cava,

I had my trusty smart phone with calculator and converted the dimensions to metric - I rounded the measurements up to the nearest whole number. Seemed to work well.

    Thanks Crowie,

They turned out quite well. We ended a bit further east of Ipswich so not as cold as Ipswich. These little tanker trucks have got me inspired again as I haven't had the desire to make toys. Watch this space.
