Model A utility version
Well, things have settled down after Christmas and New Year celebrations, and can get back into the shed. I built this car before Christmas for two reasons, one, I had sold the previous one and swmbo wanted one for our collection. Two, I needed a model to work out where to cut to build the utility version.
photos 1 and 2 are of the new model.
The ute started with the same under carraige, photo 3. Photo 4 shows the base plate cut to shape with holes for the steering column, gear shift and handbrake.
The plans are for an American model and was left hand drive. I have converted it to a right hand drive. The major problem was to work out where to cut it and maintain a sense of proportion. I used a photo downloaded from the web as a guide.
I have used Australian black walnut and Qld maple, both nice timbers to use. So far so good...

Good day in the shed. First photo is of the shortened cabin with holes for the gear stick and hand brake visible. Second photo shows the front view including the radiator. With this model I have carved out the inside of the front mudguards. The "grill" of the radiator is a series of saw cuts using a very fine saw. The next stage is designing the tray at the back, maybe tomorrow.

Another good day in the workshop. First photo shows the tray designed, made and fitted. Steering column and steering wheel fitted but not yet coupled to the front wheels. The front seat and backrest carved has been fitted. the holes for the radiator and fuel tanks have been bored.
Photo two a view from the front.
Photo three shows a front view with the radiator cap and fuel cap fitted.

Short day today, no rain for two day and the grass is dry enough to cut. The photo shows the top fitted and the rear mud guards cut shaped and fitted.
