    Default Mud kitchen

A former workmate sked me to make a mud kitchen for her grand-daughter. Until I Googled it, I didn't know mud kitchen is another name for a kid's play kitchen.
After doing the job, I am convinced that the only reason for making these types of projects is self-satisfaction. At $235 for materials cost, it wouldn't be worth making for profit.

You have done a top job on the project. Your Workmate's Grand- daughter will be "over the moon" with it.

How long did it take you to build ? Top Work

scarily... here in Perth there's a lady "making" these. Essentially from what I saw she screws a couple of pallets together and gets 4-500 for them...has a factory unit, some staff, and orders up the kazoo!

    Thanks Keith,
I didn't record hours as I was doing the job in between a church pew restoration. I would guess it took me about 25 to 30 hours. There are a lot of fiddly bits in making the oven rack, the chalk and bits racks, etc. I actually made a frame first from Oregon that is dowelled together. Also not recorded is the time and mileage to track down the 4mm Acrylic for the oven door. The black/white board was an Ikea stand that I found on G'Tree. The trouble with living out of the city that travelling to find materials becomes a donation.

    Thanks David,
Gee, I was embarrassed to ask for $300.

Crunchie, what a great kitchen, some very lucky girl is going to be very happy. Like the idea of the blackboard and whiteboard on the back.
    Top Job!

The problem with woodworkers making kids toys is we always want to make them the same quality as we would do for any other piece of furniture or object, when in fact most kids couldn't care less as long as they get to play with it. Having said that, you could quite easily display that in a prominent place and not be embarrassed in front of any adult. It looks fantastic.

Yes Ikea everyday at $129 can't be beaten! I made a knockdown one at the Men's shed a while back for a walkin request. They were quoted $150. The only way I could make anything without a loss was to use a ply cover sheet we got for free for the majority of materials.

Plenty of lookers but no sale at $150. Recycled pallets and $15 for the sink at the tip...
