nephews car WIP
I promised in a previous post to take WIP pics of a toy car if ever I made another..
I sort of remembered after I'd already glued the carcass together
this one is in red cedar, about 300mm long.
I rough shape the body with an angle grinder with a 36 grit flexible abrasive disc.
then go to a right angle drill with 80..120...then 180 grit abrasives on various soft backed velcro discs.
what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

I then hand sand with 180 grit, (this softens the lines and shapes)..then finally to 240 grit...( seems pointless to go finer seeing as it's only going to be bashed about)
add some simple turned wheels and a bent bit of 6mm steel rod for the windscreen/handle.. the finish is a couple of coats of sealer (Feast Watson proof seal) and u-beaut traditional wax.
.
what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

That is great Underfoot. I have kept coming back to this post to have numerous looks. I'd love to have one for me!
You have made it look so easy. That's the problem with loving wood things - I want to try all facets of woodworking!
Great job!
Nathan.

I love this one. The oversized wheels make it look like a cartoon car, something from Roger Rabbit.

Nice car.
For a minute there I got the impression that this was a ride in one and when I took a look at the wheels I thought have to be a strong boy.
