    Hi All,

I have been working on the wheel splash guards. Unlike the Stirling Single where I used PVC sheeting - on this model I have made them out of timber. The sides were easy - just cut down pine to the shape of the wheel arch. The timber to go around the curve was a bit of a challenge. What I did was a bit of experimentation to see what thickness of pine would bend pretty easily around the arc. I found that I could cut 0.7mm on the table saw to get the timber to bend well around the arc

I then made up some fixtures and used these with clamps to secure the top to the sides using PVA glue

Cleaned up and sanded the splashguards.

Then I cut out the wheel section on the top plate and glued on my splash guards.

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi All,

Slow work on the Pannier. Lawn bowls has taken up a fair bit of my time.

I have been working on the crank arms. A bit fiddly getting the correct clearances on the components. I used 16mm threaded bar as my crank pins. Machined down the nuts in my lathe. The nuts and washers were then cleaned in hydrochloric acid to get rid of the zinc coatings.

Crowie - thanks so much for sending me all the photos of Panniers in action in the UK. Most appreciated.

    Regards

    Keith

I am glad that you had already decided to start this model Keith otherwise this video may have given you so many ideas. The first part may not interest you but later when he visits a steamworkshop that deals with live steam locos and traction engines may interest you.

Thanks guys for your interest and research. It makes me wonder if I could build a live steam model ? I do love the models I build though. Thanks for your efforts

Funny you should mention about building a live steam loco. Next year I am hoping to build a new workshop and buy a lathe and milling machine to build some live steam models. I have a place reserved for the new workshop.

    Happy New Year to everyone.

Have done a bit of work on the Pannier Tank Loco.

Side water tanks and boiler. There is a fair bit of detail work with valves and associated gear to be done on the sides beneath the tanks. Looking forward to that work.

Fairly small locomotive but pulled carriages on branch lines in the UK. I am building 1/6th scale

    Thumbs up

    Looking good!!!
I had to go back and check out your first picture to remember how this engine was going to look as this train has a much different look than I'm used to.
So glad I got a ticket for this ride, LOL
