    Hi All,

It's been a while since I posted. I have been making up the centre steps and handrails for the loco. It is quite time consuming making up the ferrules and the end protectors for the railings. These are turned out of 6.5mm aluminium. I have found that 4mm split pins are excellent for making up the handrail supports. Next step will probably be making up the front coupler. I still have to machine up the whistle that sits just in front of the cabin. Then onto the cabin and it's interior - a bit of a daunting task on this locomotive.

Well I’m glad to see this train still on the rails even if in the remodelling shed.
Keep up the good work Keith on the detailing.

Remember Keith one part at a time and you will get the engine finished. A brick wall is built by laying one brick at a time.

Looking good you are making progress.

I went online and I found a photo pair of Pannier Tank locomotive whistles that were for sale.

    27.jpg

Below is my version of the whistles. They are turned up out of aluminium. Then assembled and components secured in position with araldite. Spray painted with gold to look like brass.

They look good Keith but could you not simply turn them from brass to save the painting, just out of curiosity that is

    Hi Derek

Thanks for your comments. Brass is a lot more expensive than aluminium. I have a pretty good stock of different diameter aluminium bar. These are the main reasons I use aluminium.

    Best Regards

Surprised you didn't do the hexagons with the new Milling machine. The paint came up well and does look like brass.

Here you go Dallas, I have used the milling machine to make up the front and rear air brake hose couplers.

    Machined out of aluminium bar.

    Hi All,

Now we are back in full lockdown I can get a bit more done on my locomotive. Been making up some fiddly little detail components.

Now onto the interior of the cabin. Made up the firebox entry doors and main pressure regulator components and handle. Next is the vacuum brake valve. Enjoy your freedom and keep safe.

Thanks for the Pannier photos you are sending me Crowie

    Hi All,

Spending a fair bit of time out in the shed. The cabin controls on this locomotive are quite fiddly but enjoyable. I will make all the components for the cabin before I fit any into their final position.
On the left is the Boiler water gauge. I machined this out of aluminium on the lathe and milling machine. The sight "glass" is clear plastic tube. On the middle right is the Vacuum brake valve. On the far right is the Hydrostatic Displacement lubricator that injects heavy lubricating oil into the steam.
This is fun time making these parts

Looking forward to operating this engine if only one could.
You make the fitting recognizable to those who know what they are. Right now I feel like turning the blow through cock handle of the gauge glass to the vertical position as that would be its normal running position.

Thanks Kevin - I will do that.

    Keep Safe in Melbourne !
