    Hi All,

I have done some painting of the inside of the cabin of the loco and the majority of the components. Made up the Johnson Bar and the train warning system (both on the right side of the photo). Will continue to make the coal bunker at the rear of the cabin.

    All the best

    Hi All,

Hope everyone is well and safe.

I have done a bit more work on the Pannier. I have been working on the tender and also made up the cabin access steps and handrails. The curved section at the rear of the tender was done by gluing in strips of timber following the curvature and then using bodyfiller to fill in the gaps between the timbers - allowing to cure and then a lot of sanding.
The roof of the cabin will be the last thing I assemble on the loco after I have painted the loco. The roof will be 1mm thick aluminium sheeting.

At the moment I am turning up the buffers for the rear of the locomotive.

    Best Regards

    Keith

Now that’s starting to really come alive looking almost ready for the tracks.
    Nicely done Keith.

Looking great Keith a master at work. Once some of the colour goes on it will certainly look the part and able to pull a load behind it.

    Thanks Derek and Peter.

The livery I will be using is Brunswick Green (British Racing Green). Still a bit of time before I start paintwork, but I did get all my paint when we were told we were going into a 5th lockdown.

    Regards

    Default Terminology

Keith, the bunker on your tank engine is looking good.

As in your title, this is a Pannier tank engine. This indicates the engine does not have a tender, but instead the water is carried in "Pannier tanks" and the fuel will be in a bunker. As you know the pannier design was a specialty of the Great Western Railway, and being a tank engine, that is without tender, would not require turning facilities, and would run equally well in either direction.

The above is not meant to distract you from your excellent work, made perhaps a bit harder due to yet another lock down. While shed time is nice, being able to go up the road to the local supply store is something that many of us are starting to miss. It just means more planning, or using what we have at hand. Shopping on line is not quite the same when you are use to pick supplies up in person.

Hope you and Cathie are well and making good use of your time in lock down.

    Really turning out great !
I got thinking it was just about time to be thinking about the tender so did a little search and it seems as if it doesn't get one.
So I'm thinking it gets used on shorter runs where they aren't needed or have better access to coal?

    Hi All,

    Thanks for your comments.

Bruce's photo in the previous post has me in a bit of a quandary. I like the colour of the loco in his post.

Could I ask you which colour you think would best suit the Pannier ? I have used both colours previously.

The red of the 4-6-2 43.jpg

Or the green of the Stirling Single 230.jpg

    Would appreciate your feedback.

    Regards

    Keith

I like the Stirling green, the red looks like primer to my eye.

    G’day Keith,
All the photos I’ve found and sent you,
the Pannier is a very dark almost black green colour.

But I’ve also seen a number of Deep Royal Blue!!

The colour is dependent on who ran the loco as each company had their own colour scheme. so you will also need to paint the correct company name on the side to match that colour. As you have seen GWR used green LMS used a maroon colour and so on until Br took over and many where painted black.
