    A Peter Bilt “1929 Ford Farm Truck” for a very special little boys first birthday.


    On the 3rd January our fourth grandson Asher turns one, he’s such a blessing.


    He had a very rough start with only half his heart developing but thanks to prayers and medical science he’s doing well, Praise God! He’ll have more operations as he grows.


    This extra special truck is for this extra special boy first birthday though our daughter has suggested he’ll not play with yet.


    The truck is 19.5” [500mm] long x 7.5” [190mm] wide x 6.75” [170mm] high.


    Thank you to a mate Ross [aka Aussie] who helped me with the scaling off an old set of plan which were very loosely followed, but in the main the truck has been scratch built.


    The bonnet, radiator, hood, tray sides, petrol tank, tool box, front & rear bumper bars, rear mudflaps, exhaust mufflers are all Gidgee.

    The tray is Blackheart Sassafras book ended.

    The engine is Huon Pine.

    The front mudguards [fenders] & running boards are Camphor Laurel.

    The headlights, taillights and wheels all came from Woodworks Ltd in Texas.

    And of course the beautiful Peterbilt lapel pin used as my number plates.


    The finish is homemade Wipe-On-Poly; 30% Tung Oil, 40% Clear Satin Polyurethane, 30% Turps by 3 coats which took 2-3 days between coats to dry as the Gidgee is so hard it doesn’t take the finish easily.


    Talking about the hardness of the Gidgee; I’ve blunted 2 HSS bandsaw blades, blunted a 6” T/C circular saw blade plus taken the edge of a T/C Router Bit.


    There is some 50-60 hours of work in the project which was done over a 6 months period.

    Fantastic as usual, only one thing though, Ford did not bring out the V8 until 1934.

    Too good for a toy but an excellent build.

    This first birthday should be a real celebration that he has lived his first year. May the years ahead be healthy and who knows by the time he is twenty one he might have "a 1929 Ford Truck" (full size).

    Glad to hear the little fella is doing well Peter and he will always remember his grandad and all the wooden toys that he has made or going to make as I am sure there will be many many more to come and what a great excuse to keep building these great toys that you do.

    Thank you for that Handy reminder Ian....

    It is very remiss of me to not thank my little blue helper Handy..

    He's always a valued assistant in the shed, he was there for me all throughout the build.

    I think that is your best build so far Crowie. Must have been a special effort for a special boy. Great to hear he is progressing along a bit better now and boy has that 12 months gone quickly (for us at least).
    Great memory to be able to acknowledge all those donors so well. All your components have come from far and wide to culminate in a great heirloom for a little fighter.
    I hope your whole family has a fantastic day tomorrow and celebrate everything that is important to you.
