Thread: Pink and Rocks

Thank you Peter. More painting today yet another two days and I should finish the wheels and steering wheel painting, it's waiting for paint to dry that slows things up.

I think the pink is quite fetching. And I read it is house paint?

Mainly been painting Bret but yesterday and today managed to get some of the bumpers done.

Yes you got it right as I said previously if it had been a small toy which could easily be picked up and put into the mouth then I would have used a different paint


Wheels painted these took 5 days to do. I was cutting out some wood for some tea light holders to go onto the table and rough cutting enough wood to make 2 more 1936 Fords as someone saw the first and brought it off of me now I have to make one to replace the original and another family member also want one.

Pealed of the masking tape where the bumpers fit and fitted the main section along the back and front. Shaped some more pieces for the return of the bumper and stuck these on, In the first of these photo's you can see the bare wood where the tape was removed

In the glimpses we're allowed to see it's looking great. I like those bumpers.

A big painting job, but worth the effort. You're more than doing it justice.

Only glimpses just enough to show what I am up to without giving too much away.


That will teach me to sell the first Ford but the offer was just too good to refuse, not only that but he spent loads of money on nearly all of my turning stuff I had done from pens to bowls. Now I can buy some more woodworking tools.

Not a lot done today just painted the bare wood on the bumpers ready for the top coat. Soon be starting on the rocker assembly. I have already cut the two rocker runners just need to work out the position of the cross members for this I will need to fix the wheels which should be within the next few days, then back to more painting.
No pictures this time

Fitted the wheels I first trimmed the axles to the correct length then cut 4 slots into each end this allowed the glue to get into the body and hold the axles in place. I also sanded the shafts as well as the holes so that when pushed in the glue did not just get wiped off.
The slots also acted as release vents when I glued the wheels on as these where in effect blind holes.

Well it is now on it's own 4 wheels

Having looked at the rocker parts I have already cut out I have changed the shape slightly on the ends, will try and take a photo tomorrow.

I was predicting that I should have this finished in about 3-4 weeks. Well if there are no hic-cups I may get completed before then, it's good to see the end is close

Those wheels have come up a treat. They look really good, (or at least, the one that we can see).

I like the idea of putting slots down the side of the dowel, too.

Anyway today managed to get the rest of the parts prepared for the rocker assemble, I decided to have a completely flat piece to go between the rocker bars so there is no chance of little feet getting squashed when rocking it. The other two pieces which I rounded over two of the edges are for extra support and stability of the assembly. Even though these two supports are right under the rockers I still rounded them over,I try to round over as much as i can with children's toys. Still more rounding over to do.

Ha! A small turning job, just pretty amazing is a better way to describe it...

Well more done to the rocker assembly biscuits cut in the support and main base as well as the side rocker pieces

OOOOPS I forgot to round over the centre board before gluing up so router what I could and shaped the last bits by hand

Marked out and drilled 4 holes for some dowels which will go into the bottom of the wheels, also you will notice that there is some filler along the join this is not due to a bad joint but where I rounded over all the edges on the 2 side rocker parts(got carried away with the router)

Managed to drill the wheels as well, next job is to paint the assembly and attach looks like it will be finished in about a week at the latest.
