Pull Along Elephant
Well I thought it was about time I had a go at an animated wooden toy.
So while waiting for Amazon UK to delivery the book "How to Make Animated Toys" I found this plan.
I'm having a go making a "Pull Along Elephant" who's head moves up & down as he's pulled along.
I very much appreciate the WIP photos of many ladies & blokes, so have added some.
I've used the plans as a guide, using the available timber I had in my shop rather than purchasing a new lot; plus a bit of adaptation as I went.
He's still got a bit to finish but the children at KinderGym will enjoy him when he's finished.
Cheers, Crowie

Had some trouble getting the head mechanism working,
along with clearance on the body,
having to trim it back.
I think it might be ready for assembly.

Sorry I put them down to email size,
& yes they are too small.
I think this might be better at document size.
Cheers, Crowie
OH - one other thing,
I added the photo of the rocking horse I've almost finished in the original lot of photos at document size.

Thanks Crowie, much better, now I can see them
It's great to see it come together and a fun project. Your rocking horse looks great. Well done. I always think its rewarding to make something for kids, they are so appreciative and the look on their face is something you can't buy.Reality is no background music.

G'Day All,
I've finally finished the first of 2 Pull Along Elephants.
I had to dismantle it twice.
First was to relieve the head movement to allow the head move freely & it pulled along.
The second was to remove the front axle to tighten the angles of the crank plus reduce the turns on connection rod; this was done to allow for freer head movement as it pulled along.
Works well with my grandson tester though the head movement are a little violent the faster the toy moves.
I've not assembled the second Pull Along Elephant, but taken a couple of photos of the modifications.
Along with the Pull Along Elephants I've been making stack toys for my wife to use at KinderGym and you can see them in the photos. Lots of cutting & sanding plus 2 coats of colour with a coat of clear to finish.
Thanks for the encouragement for a simple toy maker.
Cheers, Crowie..

Pull along kangaroo
Stewie in that book "How to make animated toys" by David Wakefield there is a plan for a pull along kangaroo, with a joey, which appears to hop as it's pulled along. I've made a few, and little kids love them. Very Australian too.

G'Day Keith,
I made the elephant from some free plans I found on the internet.
I was waiting for that book, "How to make animated toys" by David Wakefield,
which I had purchased from Amazon UK.
Maybe I can have a go at the Kangaroo next??

Thanks Scotty,
I have trouble with colours but have a great wife who helps me.
I got all the bright colours through a mate at Hudson’s;
I purchased a stack of their old stock at a good price.
It helped both the store & definitely helped me.
Maybe one day, I'll be confident enough to have a go at something more intricate.
In the meantime, I just enjoy making toys and relaxing in the woodshop.
Cheers, Crowie

No worries Crowie,
you have too crawl before you can walk we all have to start somewhere. Some people are more talented then others it happens in all things that people do,some can on do certain things some can do all things and some cant do anything. What youve started with looks great and you build from there, push yourself to improve on the last job that you do and youll be amazed at what you can acheive.
