Realistic Mobile Crane,- and it works too.
Hi everyone, Designed and made this telescopic boom Mobile Crane many moons ago. It has been published in The Australian Woodworker Magazine, way back in Nov / Dec, 1987 in a condensed format. Although NOT as Scale Model as such,- it is set to 1:20 scale for realism and balance. I based it on a real fifty ton, Mobile Crane, and simply modified the various sections to suit the timber, & plywood I used in construction. IF anyone is interested in having a go at constructing this realistic Mobile Crane for themselves, or to make as a gift, or to simply have something to brag about, etc.,etc, I do have the actual size Work Plan available, ( simply PM me for price, & postage ).
** For the curious here's the specifications;-
Carrier;- 510mm.long x 140mm. wide. 8 road wheels.
Crane,- constructed as a separate unit and attached to the carrier with a steel King Pin. Hollow core box-section boom,- 3 sections, inside each other. Lockable cable-controlled telescopic action; Lockable Boom angles ; Max boom height, with all three boom sections completely extended; - 1.3 metres, ( 53 " ) at 80 degree angle from ground. Full circle, ( 360 degree ) swing. Working outriggers. Twin cable main winch fitted with automatic cable brake
Have one here all set up on a shelf in my lounge,- everyone who calls in stops in their tracks, and always asks, " Did you make that ??? "

Great crane
Good job on this one. I do not know where to put it if I di build it. My wife said that I need to build a box to keep al the grandson's construction vehicles. I guess that means that I need to a box before building any more vehicles.

Very nice crane indeed Roger - well done.
srichard44,
You are going to have to build a truck shaped toy box I think. That would be a win win.
