That lathe could well be the start of a very slippery slope and one I'm sure that you will love!!

The postage from here for some small wheels would be a couple of €€ Wood from my fire wood pile, same as I use for mine. My time, free. I just love turning things like that..

I have just posted 3 dragsters, about 8" long, in 2 small parcels to the U.K. and it was about 10€. About because there was a photo CD for a mate that went at the same time.. Wheels would go in a reused jiffy bag..

If you need any info on turning a series of wheels then just ask and I'll let you know how I do mine so they are all the same size.
My ambition is to grow old disgracefully. So far my ywife recons that I'm doing quite well! John.

I tell ya, it hurt at first, lots of stretching when you get into pos. II. So I pace myself with faster 5-string blue grass banjo picking. Torn tendons & ligaments (7 weeks in a splint), split bones, hyper extended fingers, lots of aches and complaints.
Love the idea. There's just a few problems: I don't have a guitar ( used to have one) and if I should try to play I think my wife throws me out of the house... I don't hear it if I'm playing false...I spend two years in evening school learning japanese, tree years charcoal drawing, and a few other things.... Music is good for listening to me, that's enough!

Thanks for the offer. As soon as I have the machine in the shop, I'll ask you some advice. I'm used to try everything out myself, but a bit of advice -especially to keep things safe- I surely can appriciate.

Just remember that buying the lathe is the cheap bit. It's what you decide you need after that costs ,but it needn't cost too much

Edit : - Something that I very nearly forgot to say about lathes is that you can turn small things on a big lathe but you can't turn big things on a small lathe. I realise that you aren't looking big here, but things can and do change. You don't have to have a huge lathe, but the micro Proxxon will only turn very small things.

Axminster Power Tools have a very good range at good prices. They will ship over here and have a service that is second to none that I and lots of others have found. I have no association at all with them other than being a very satisfied customer for the last 16 years or so by the way. axminster.co.uk/lathes--woodturning-dept208145_pg1/ just stick the 3ws on the front a have a look..
