    Default Reindeer and Sleigh

YES, Christmas is fast approaching and it was time to change gears from wheels.

I’d made these a few years ago and they were a hit for Fund Raising for the local community club plus a couple of gifts so as I had the template, I thought another 3 was the go.

I cheated a bit this time as I’ve used old good clear Radiata Pine for the sleigh side then added a 50/50 mix of Jarrah & Mahogany stains to my home made wipe-on-poly to colour the timber red.

The front, back and seat are old Pacific Maple and have come up a treat with the stained finish.

The reindeer at Tallow Wood and this time I added a round burr hole for the eye also staining just the eye with mixture to make it red.

The club will add some lollies [candy] to the sleigh, adding to the Christmas Guessing Competition Prize Pool Fund Raiser.

Fun project that helps the community club and some lucky family will enjoy a Christmas Decoration for years to come…

-- Lifes good, Enjoy each new day...... Cheers Crowie

Great work Crowie. A lot of work has gone in to those. Do you cut them out on the Scrollsaw or Bandsaw, or some other way?

    Thank you Dallas,

I have a template then cut the rough pattern on the bandsaw followed by the bobbin sander and a Saburrtooth Carving Burrs in the dremel to finish off the antlers plus router on all the hard corners with a 1/8" round-over bit....

The fiddly part is ensuring the legs & antlers slide easily into the body. Oh nearly forgot, I used a 1/4" ball burr for the eyes after doing a pilot thru hole...

Drop me a note if you want the patterns for making your own templates, I can scan mine into a pdf file for you.
    Cheers, Peter

AND ALSO THANK YOU Keith for the encouragement and support!
