Ride-on train
I don’t really like painting wood, but the person who wanted me to make this train requested it. I used an Ashi’s Workshop plan #164, “Ride on Train”, with a few modifications. The seat is 190mm off the floor and the overall length is 1600mm.
I made solid couplings using the cut-out from the carriage wheel arches.
I thought the seat was rather small, so I put in a full-length timber to cover the entire back of the engine and hinged it to create a “toolbox”.
The front apron of the engine was drilled at 18mm so that the “toggle” handle of the string could be easily inserted and removed. The string is stored under the seat.
I used 8mm steel axles rather than wooden dowels to carry the weight of a child.
