Big Rig
This is a large truck with two semi tippers 2.7m long which I recently made for an order from Newcastle.
What I did was take my Prime Mover plan and increased it by 100%. I also used my Semi Tipper plan however it had to be modified somewhat as the order was for the two Semi Tippers not one. I also had to come up with a design for the Dolly.
If you want to see how the original Prime Mover and Semi Tipper looked you can view at the following link. Wooden toy semi tipper trailer
I will post some photos for you over the next few days so that you can see how the project progressed.
To start with I made the Prime Mover body by doubling my plans.

I like this one. I like how you are upscaling it. One day I hope to get around to this one and likewise size it up.

Hi Crowie,
The original truck I just free hand drew him out on timber till I liked the look of it, then made it, later on I scaled up a photo of a kenworh to my drawing size. It was all pretty close to about a 1/20 scale in size. So as I stated this twice the size so it would make it about 1/10scale
The wheels and tyres are cut out in seperate pieces to make them easier to paint.
The seat I cut out then put the grooves in with a radial arm saw and hammer and chisel.
The tyres and seat are stained with feast and watson black(the ones you mix with metho).
The wheels are painted with a chrome pressure pack paint
The two Chassis were the same so it didn't matter which one went on the Prime Mover as I built a dolly to join the two traillers.

wheels
G'day Neal,
I used to do the wheels with hole cutters and then on the lathe, then scroll saw but I found it very time consuming and boring work. Then I employed someone to help me and they spent most of their time doing wheels.
I found this was very money consuming work.
So then I bought a cnc router. I figured even if I pay it off, it's wage is a 5th of a employee but it's out put is 5 times as much.
Now programing the tool paths for the router I find very time consuming and boring work. So I conned my wife into doing that.
So the wheels I did on the router, however I built the rest of the truck by hand using the band saw, scroll saw, radial arm saw and my bench router as it is too time consuming to do the toolpaths for just a once off job and my wife works so she wouldnt do the toolpaths for a once of job.
Perhaps I should have persisted with the toolpaths because I now have orders for another two ..thats life.
Phil
P.S. I will put more photos on tonight if I can con her into doing that.

Cheers prime, i spent a good deal of time looking at your wheels and had a light bulb moment long after posting that it must have been cnc'd, very nice work, and nice that its paying for itself so well. The extra orders are probably the best indicator. Love seeing the pics, the more i see all round this site the more i take in an learn from. awesome.
Neal.

Sorry been so long posting more photos of my semi.
When I get the cab together I glue it all except the roof so I can remove the said roof after the prime mover has been stained to the ordered colour.
This makes it easy to fit the interior(seats, steering wheel, air con, well ok not air con) and keep colours seperated.
And finally onto the the tipper, which is hinged with dowel as is the tail gate.
