Rocket Ship
My oldest son Nick loves space and rockets. I was thinking about making him a rocket. I have found several designs off of google for ideas.

I really like the 4th ones design the best. I could do some laminations. I would not put the point on. I also want a to put a single large porthole. My question is I want this to have a removable nose cone and the inside hollowed out so he can put his space men in it. Do you think I can make the nose cone fit tightly but not to tight so that it stays put during play without some kinda of latch?
My rough dimensions are at least a 12" tall maybe more.
Thanks for any input.
Bret

Hi Bret,
I would assume that turning this so you could add a lid to the top would be the same as a friction fitted lidded box. Fairly easy to do. Try this tutorial:

Being the intelligent guy you are, I'm sure you'll be able to adapt it to make a rocket-Scott

G'day Bret.
I like the look of the last rocket best personally, but it's probably not as suited to a six year old as the one you chose.
I love a challenge. What about a 'bayonet' style connection. ie. small pins, possibly bamboo skewers or similar, at 90 degrees on the sides of the nose cone where it goes into the top of the main rocket body, then small matching 'L' shaped grooves in the top of the rocket body itself.
The cone is fitted by pressing it in then turning slightly.
Edit: I'm not sure how well it would stay in place - maybe a bayonet connection in conjunction with a magnet or two?... Steve
