Default Rocket Ship - politically correct this one

    Hi,

Youngest boy turns 6 on Saturday. He loves rockets so I made him a space fighter rocket. The timber is pine, a bit of cedar and silky oak. All offcuts with the exception of the 25mm dowel for the engines. A couple of blister gun packs it looks pretty good. No plans just lots of time reading and sci fi books. I have some stars that I will stick on and then will varnish it.

    Thanks for looking.

G'Day Todd, That's one very fine looking Stars Wars Fighter.
I bet the young bloke will be winning the galaxy back for the good guys for many years.

    Hello Todd,

What a fantastic build. you got all the proportions just right. Any chance you could share some dimension.s If you give the dowel size on the sides I can scale it from there. My oldest would love to have one of these.

    Here are the dimensions -

    Length - 280mm
    Height - 220mm

    Fuselage - 68mm wide x 70mm deep
    made out of pine

Wings - Silky oak skirting boards
    80mm long - 65mm wide - 10mm thick

Wing blocks - red cedar - wing attaches to block then fuselage
    90mm long - 22mm square

    engines - 25mm dowel - 90mm long

    Cockpit - Tallowwood
    90mm long - 38mm wide - 25mm at top of cockpit

    Blister Turrets - pine
35mm long - 37mm wide - curved at the back
    6mm dowel as the lasers

    landing gear
    50mm x 8mm dowel - into pine - 44mm x 20mm x 4mm

I have attached some new photos - sanded back with stars on and one coat of satin polyurethane. It has made the silky oak, cedar and tallow wood come alive.

Default Rocket Ship - politically correct this one

Here is the proof in the pudding. Luke loves his rocket. It was more popular than his new ipad. Although the parachuting soldier toy took priority I take comfort in the fact that my space fighter beat the apple machine. Nothing like solid timber for boys.
