I think that this may be the second time you have been wrong Aussie. I would think it is called a rubber band car because it is propelled by one.

Aussie you surprise me, we made them before battery powered cars came to being. With a good grip on the rear wheels they took off like a dragster. john.

Oh dear,it does look like it is the second time I have been wrong.Dont tell SHMBO as I will never live it down.
I was bought up on Meccano,metal gears,little electric motors and batteries.
I missed out on rubber band cars it looks like.
Or maybe I am not old enough Well I am nearly old enough.

Okay so will someone explain to me how its powered by the elastic band. I have never seen one or heard of one either. (I lived a very sheltered life)

The Rubber Band Car.
Hi, munruben,
The back axle is a piece of Dowel, & in the Centre of the Axle you put a small Pin or Nail ( with no head ).
The R/B goes over the Nail, you take a front Wheel in ones Fingers & the Back Wheel in the others, & you wind the Car up, by going hand over hand.
Still hanging onto the back Wheel, place it on the floor ( Lino is good ) & let er rip.
Should take off like a Jet.
Bike Tube Rubber turned inside out, usually gives a better grip for the back Wheels, or rough the Band up with a bit of 80grit.
That sound like it is as clear as mud.

when i was a child all we had were hand saws,they sure look nicer nowadays..all i had for rear traction were a pair of vacuum cleaner belts.its 12 inches long,2.5 inches wide,and yes even as big as it is,it flies
