Hey Crowie! I like this. My grandson is here with me at the moment and reckons he would like to have a go at making it. Any chance we can get hold of the plans for it? It will make a good project for him over the xmas hols.

Why the need for lightness? With a lakky band that size i would have thought that some mass would have been a good idea?

Tried an sdit on my post??? Didn't work propper like so here is a thought I had about the traction on the rear wheels. Smear a thin layer of silicon rubber on the wheel circumference, let it dry and hey-ho watch it go

I've tried a few times to do the stencil for the flames and here is Mark 3.
Attached is the stencil & the first test spray in silver on a old stick of painted timber.....

Crowie your flame design looks great! Only suggestion I have is maybe put some double sided tape around the edges on the side going against the dragster. Cut it neatly even with the flames and maybe it will help give you a cleaner edge with your paint by sealing your template to the car and not allowing any overyspray.

Well, I have done the back axle, back wheels and some experimental side frames this afternoon. I don't have the plans as yet, but it's such a simple design I'll have a play. No photos as yet, but I'll sort that out tomorrow probably. Shopping tomorrow morning

The car is Looking good. Are you painting the whole car or just painting on the flames. If the first then paint the top coat colour then when dry apply the masking tape with the flame design on it. give this a single coat of the same top coat this may bleed under the tape and seal it without showing on the original colour(because it is the same colour). Paint the flame with whatever colour you want without the contrasting colour from bleeding under. Hope this makes sense.

Progress at last on the Rubber Band Dragsters, four of them.
I know things had been a bit hectic but wow nearly four weeks since the last post on this build.
How time flies when you are having fun.
I finally got all the parts cut, sanded, glued and painted ready for assembly.
I had one of my daughters help with the paint colours and had all sorts of trouble doing the flames, but they look okay with a couple of coats of clear.
The silicon on the rear wheels is a bit iffy but I'll have to see how they run once assembled.

I know the feeling Bret. Finished all the Christmas pressies now but can't make anything as I am waiting for my blades for the jointer to come back from sharpening

Good grief Mr C !! I nearly had to go and do a trouser change! At first sight of the thumbnails they look FULL SIZE !!

I was wondering if I had the wrong end of avery big stick mate! But with a closer look they are looking toy size and GOOD.. I was trying to work out what size lakky bands you have there?

They should have some good fun with them mate. Just don't get in the way. With the little bit of testing I did with mine the silicon seemed to be OK, but after the first try with the rubber put onto very smooth wood (Normal turners finish and a nice shiny smooth surface) I put the production wheels back on the lathe and roughed them up a bit and that seemed to work much better.

I was thinking the same - the template needs adhesive to stop overspray going under the edge. Rather than DS tape, though, spray adhesive might be the go. A little easier to apply. If you only spray it on the template and not the timber, it will come off easily when done.

Another method would be to buy some Avery removable A4-sized labels, ( LABEL AVERY LASER L7167REV 1L-25SH REMOVABLE ). They fit in a printer and have an adhesive backing. Cost me $34.50 delivered for 25 sheets. You could print the design, then cut it out with a scalpel-style hobby knife.

By the way, loving this build, crowie. Got a feeling I might have to make a similar one sometime.
