Ok,when i do this one,im gonna try and use different species of wood..I honestly hate painting,i will try this route before i potentionally ruin one of projects

Awesome and you are building more detailed. I.E the realistic frame rails. Is that walnut? Keep the pics coming.

Yes walnut,a guy came by and had a truck load of 8 foot lumber..Im like what ya doing with those,burning it he says..Not today cowboy I got some walnut,cedar,cherry and maple

If someone came by with that sort of timber on a truck in OZ they would be going to a wood show and selling it for a few grand.
The rod you are building Fozzy looks like it was/is used on a dirt track raceway for quick recovery jobs.
Get into some timber stains then spray varnish much easier than paint, better still get someone else to paint thats what I do(if i can)
