    Default Scraper

Thought it was time to start a new project in the shed. After the GTG at Dave's place last weekend and seeing Crowie's construction crew, I will continue the theme and will be making a Scraper from the Wood magazine plans. Progress seems to have been slow this week, and last night I needed to remove the swimming pool from my shed after our little storm. Thankfully it is all dry again tonight and I was able to get a little more done.
This is where I am up to at the moment.

    Welcome in the club.

    Dallas
That looks to be a great scraper. I have never seen one in real life. These kind of machinery is not used in Denmark.

We have them working just down the road from me where they are building a new Bunnings store
At this stage the only mods I can see I will be doing is making my own wheels with appropriate tread pattern, but this could change along the way.

    Hi Dallas,

Is it a small Bunnings like Torquay, an intermediate size Bunnings like Waurn Ponds or huge Bunnings like North Geelong ?

Not sure, it just says it will be a large format store. Only got the walls up so far so it is hard to tell.

Feels like it was last century that I started this thread. Just hasn't been much free time lately but the last two weekends have given me a bit of time in the shop.
I got the rest of the parts cut and sanded ready for assembly. Glued up all the components (boy some glueups use so many clamps and you still struggle to get good purchase). Unfortunately because the parts had been cut and thicknessed so long ago some of the Jarrah started to warp making the glueup even more difficult trying to straighten them out. But we got there.
Below are some of the WIP photos so far. Still need to make the wheels, axles and a few accessory bits, and do the final assembly and clear coating.

That looks great Dallas, the scraper is coming together very well....
I really like the way you've matched the timber on the cabin....nice tough...
Yes sir, the glue ups can be difficult so the more clamps and types you have the better.........
Could I please encourage you with the freedom to give yourself some poetic licence and personalize the build adding some extra detail that's not on the original plans.....
    Cheers, Peter

That's a kool looking machine Dallas!.
I could of used a slightly bigger version of it on my driveway after some of the rain we had down here.
Most of the drive ended up out on the highway!.

I love the colours of the timber your using and the contrasting effect they have.
    Great stuff.

    Cheers
    Trev.

Finally finally finally, I have managed to get some time to spend on this again. So close yet so far.
Made up a couple of exhausts, some wooden pins, wheels and axles. Just need to get a bit of threaded rod and domed nuts and we should be right for final assembly.
I have been putting some coats of clear on the parts since the weekend so I should be able to finish it soon.
Below are some progress photos of making the wheels and the almost completed dry fit. For the wheels I drew up a segmented circle to use as the template for the tread spacings. I just marked each of these segments on to the wheel and rotated it one segment at a time and cut the next tread on the tablesaw at 15 degrees. Two opposite wheels were glued together and the back of the wheel shaped after mounting on a mandrel and pressing it firm with the live centre.
