    Default Self Assembly Toy Truck

Wanted to make something that my grandsons could put together with a bit of adult help and supervision. The oldest three of them are 4 so it had to be fairly foolproof, they're not teenagers so don't know everything yet; I sometimes think that they're well on the way though. Came up with the design pictured and made 8 of them. Managed to bring them all to fruition without a single screw-up (of any consequence ).

They'll be held together with screws, splines, for alignment, and glue. If I was doing them again I'd make the backboard 3/8" thick in lieu of 1/4" and extend the tray sides slightly past the back of the cab. I'd also look into getting some axle bolts a bit less chunky than the 1/4" originals. Overall though I'm pretty happy with them.

The boys will be putting them together at our annual Xmas in July holiday, hope they like their creations.

Very nice, may well create a few more woodworkers when they get their hands on those. Great idea.

    They are fantastic sir.
I love the idea/way you’ve made them a kit for the kids to assemble; too marks.

Great design David. Once you have jigged up for one it's just as easy to make multiples and those alignment splines will make assembly spot on for little guys.
Do you intend for the kids to put the screws in with a screwdriver or a cordless drill? Kids love using a cordless tool but trying to get them to stop at the right time is not easy, especially the younger ones.
