Default J series Bedford flat deck monster truck(almost finished)

This actually started out as the monster truck from the Tremendous Toy Trucks book (Thanks once again Bret), but I wasn't happy with the square shape and decided to change it, I remember the old j series bedfords from when I was a kid quite fondly so away I went.
It's a combination of gummy pine and Hakia, when calving is over I'll make the wheels using Quilla.

Looks Awesome. I love the sheen it has. I do have one suggestion though. If you are giving this to a little one who is hard on toys as mine are. I drilled the axle housing from the bottom and put a 1/4 dowel though them into the frame. This is the first part that failed.

Nice one Kiwi75. I used to have a J series, so I'll definitely be following this.

G'Day "Kiwi", That's some beautiful timber you've used in the truck; makes a good toy look great, well done. Cheers, crowie

Cheers mate, I've just used plain old cooking oil which I presume is the safest? I already took your advise concerning the axel housing as I read your monster truck thread before I started mine.
I was kinda hoping the shape of them would make them less likely to break along the grain.

I knew a fulla up the road when I was a kid who had one all hotted up with chrome mags and a V8, at the time I thought it was the coolest truck around.
When I was a bit older my father decided to sell up and buy a caravan and he bought an old J series School bus to tow the caravan with, I drove it around the paddock one evening without rearranging too many gears.

    Good one Kiwi!!!

My old J series never looked that good.

Unbustable old truck however. 4 speed box, long stroke side valve motor. A true mobile oil leak.

The truck is looking good waiting for the completed item. It will bring a smile to a youngsters face.

Finally knocked it off, bit rougher than I would've liked but it has that hand crafted look so I'm still happy, heres hoping the wee new owner likes it!!

    Fantastic truck.
Really love the color and grain of the wood.
