Back in the shed
Hi,
Finally back in the shed. Had 6 weeks holidays and went away for about 3 and a half weeks. After visiting rellies and friends and having eldest son throw up over laptop computer - (did you know that 6 year old's stomach contents are extremely corrosive). Needless to say laptop has gone to that big laptop in the sky.
Finally get home and ready for some constructive sawdust creation. First job was to make 2 trains and some carriages. Started off with making the wheels. Turned up a cylinder of timber and then started chopping off wheels with the drop saw. Done it heaps of times before, but this time I was being careless and the saw grabbed the piece of timber and as my fingers were a bit too close to the blade they proceeded to join the timber in the saw. Luckily all the fingers are still attached - one has a bit less flesh than before. Very lucky. What actually hurt the most was that SWMBO was watching knew it was going to happen and has proceeded to tell me as well as all and sundry the words that husbands hate - I TOLD YOU SO.
So that ended my plans for the shed. I have since got back into the shed and have completed 2 trains each with 2 carriages as well as 3 carriages for a train I made previously. Photos attached.
One good thing that did happen was that SWMBO has agreed that a bandsaw would be a better idea when making wheels and I was given prior approval to buy a bandsaw in April.
I then received a phone call from father in law who told me that he had found a 14" Carbatec Bandsaw for $300. Carbatec BAS-350 - 2 years old. New price $800. He went and looked at it and said that it was the proverbial as new only been driven to church condition.
Will be brilliant as it has 1.5hp motor which I will need due to the hardness of the timber.
I reckon I might need to attempt something else stupid - I do need a new grinder and a chisel sharpening attachment!!

Well done Todd,
Good looking train & carriages.
Great score to get the bandsaw for that money.
Sorry about the laptop, bet you're glad for "backing up" rather than "chucking up".
Keep enjoying the shed time.
Cheers, crowie

Sorry to hear you hurt yourself and there is a lesson there for us. Nice sawdust making. The results look great.
