Tell me about it Peter always keep plenty of bits of wood in the scrape draw.
Anyway more of the build
Cut out the track frame support assembly and a couple of shocks i turned these from Oak the smallest part being 1/8" diameter. The second photo is the collection of parts I have been making
DSCF7573.jpgDSCF7575.jpg
Now to assemble some of those parts before I loose them still need to add the front brake drums and the tie rod
DSCF7576.jpgDSCF7583.jpgDSCF7581.jpg
Also the roller wheel assembly needed to be started The cross pins have not been glued but are there to help space everything until the frames are dry, I will keep this as a separate assembly until it is complete with the rollers to make it easier to work on it will not be that long before I have to tackle the tracks themselves but will need to make two or three jigs for them which should be interesting 62 links to make but I will make at least 70 giving me some spare just in case I have problems not only that but if I make a jig to take 10 at a time it will be easier to handle.

Looking good Derek - lots of multiple identical components which is always a good challenge.
Watching your build with much interest

It is a good job that i study each section of the build as I have found a few mistakes on the plans One being the roller wheels are 7/8" wide yet the axles for these are also 7/8" long and the supports for these axles are 1/8" thick and you have one either side of the roller so in my calculations without any movement gap adds up to 1 1/8". The other thing is some components state how many to make for the whole build but the next component will tell you how man to make only one when there are two this could confuse some people as I say I always study the plans so picked up on these before cutting any of the parts

The good thing about making mistakes is that you learn for the next time.
An integral part of the building is learning where you can improve for next time.
Love your work Derek

Today started with the construction of a basic jig which I could clamp to the drill press so as to get the holes in 8 link bars you will see where these fit a little later.
DSCF7584.jpgDSCF7586.jpgDSCF7585.jpg
And this does not look a lot for today's offerings top left are a couple of top idle wheels, below that are 4 caps which are used to cover the axle ends of the main drive wheel and idle wheel two sat facing out and the other two showing the back. Down the centre are the links I mentioned above and are what the jig was made for, And the 4 other parts are spacers to go onto the two main axle shafts

This little lot are the parts still to be fitted to the chassis and I keep these in a bag for safe keeping as if I left them on a corner of the bench I am sure to loose them and will never find them again until I have made new ones and the model is complete

Keep on building guys and have fun
I did say this was going to be a slow build but this last week things seem to have sped up a little you never know I might even complete it this year

Thank you guys.
Is that how many tracks or should that be how many track links 62 links total did I give the impression that there are more than one each side
Not very much done today as I have other things to get ready for a day out tomorrow so there will be nothing now until at least Sunday.
Cut out and drilled the top idle wheel support and also some roller side support brackets which needed to be stepped this took a little time as can be seen by the size of them being only 5/8" long and as can be seen from the photo 3/16" wide and the step is 1/8" so I decided to tackle this with hand tools there are 8 to make 4 right hand and 4 left hand.
DSCF7595.jpgDSCF7602.jpg
I then started to assemble some of the collection of parts that I had made starting with the rear roller spacers and the drive spacers. While these were drying I added the 8 roller side support brackets to the track frame and also fitted the main track roller supports. To the front I attached the tie rod and the front drum brakes.
DSCF7604.jpgDSCF7621.jpg
The last two photo's shows the parts all fitted and those that still need to be fitted the top roller is not yet glued in place as I will do that once I have the tracks made so that i can line it all up properly.

Great work!!!
Love what you've got done so far, and sorry for asking about the tracks I missed the post up above some how yesterday.
I jump around trying to keep up with all the great builds going on and get confused sometimes.

As I mentioned in htl's post yesterday I was out all day with my woodwork and the wife's knitting, the day was great as it was a beautiful sunny day, when I got home however we had no internet connection luckily it was my providers fault and it did not come on until late.
While I was there I picked up some bits of use.
Today have been taking it easy and spent most of it cleaning up the bits I brought as grease and rust does not mix very well with wood and sawdust.
This is what I brought a nicely marked 6" ruler which looks clearer than the one I have been using for years 2 small planer blades these I am going to convert into a couple of dowel making jigs for the models, a small saw which is used by the engineering guys and fits into a 2MT which is what my lathe is and a small chuck which I will be making a handle for to drill into the end of bits of wood turning.
The little saw did not have the bar attached into the end but the thread was there it is so that it can be held securely in the lathe and not come flying out when not using the tailstock. I am going to make a little table up to go under this so that I can cut small kerf slots in wood, it is only 0.025" wide and I know I can get other widths as well.
Total cast of all of these part was £6.00 that is $10.15AD
