Wow Aussie that's going to be a great car! How many hours do you think will go into building it?

I would have a wild guess at it taking 40 hours.There is some tricky bits to make.
The grill is a doosy.May take me a couple of goes at that..

I agree with Les..... that's going to be too nice to be a toy.... love the natural look too.

Looks like there's a bit of work suitable for scroll saws on it!

you are right
This could be your next project
There is a lot that could be done on a scrollsaw.
so far I have only cut window openings with my scrollsaw.
But you could cut the side panels
mudguards and running board setup.
grill
The roof section would have to be done in strips and glued,
as it is approx 108mm wide
Bumpers ,
seat and many other parts
There is a 1928 chev pickup that would be worth you looking at.

Not alot done today.
Shaped a dark piece of Jarrah for grill.
I shaped timber both ends of wood the same.If the first attempt at grill failed I had the other end to work with.
Cut 3/32" strips of dark and light wood for radiator to fit in grill shell.
Glued strips together and sanded.
Centre of grill shell still needs finish
shaping and a recess in the back af it for radiator.
I marked out chassis and rough cut on bandsaw ready for sanding.
Looks like I will be making plenty of dust next time.

I like your thinking.... ready for second attempt.....plenty of time I wished I had another piece for something.

Cut some Darker jarrah today.Decided to start on the mudguards (fenders)
Wood was 30mm thick,I needed 19mm thick.
cut both guards from the 30mm then put through saw,down to 19mm
The wheel arches were opened up with a 70 mm holesaw then sanded on my spindle sander.The 3' drum was the right size.
I then cut the 2 inner guard pieces.(the tear drop looking bits)
Strange bits to work out,was a bit of trial and error.
The other small bit in photo is the rear roof panel with window opening..

I am not sure how I got into this really.
A couple of years ago ,we moved house.Gave up my other hobbies because of lack of room and health.
There was a lot of offcut timber laying around the house,only oragon and pine.
I decided if I bought a few cheap tools,I could make something out of the offcuts.
I purchased a book an wooden locks and another on making wooden sundials.
Well you know how it goes.A scroll saw,router,table saw,etc.It is never ending
Found I really liked this wood stuff. ( I was always into rebuilding cars and some electronics ) How it got from scrap wood to building the odd box ,now toy car I am not quite sure.I have built plenty of wood locks including my own design.
I need a bit more gear now.The minister for war & finance is not real happy.

Which of the wooden lock books do you have? First or second? Did you make any of them?
Friend of mine bought the first one and I was hoping he'll hurry up and make some of them, hoped he'd then help me try one..... he's taking his time tho.

I like anything unusual, so the locks appealed to me.... also like simple moving things... the old fashioned toys..... just wish I had the nerv to use the "big, bad, noisy" wood working "toys" .... have to rely on Ken .... making a lot of what I do a joint effort..... and an exercise in patience on my part...... waiting...... waiting........ lol

It was the first book of locks.I made 3 different ones from book and several of each.
Then I started making my own as I wasnt happy with some of the workings etc
one of mine in photo.the shank is 30 mm dia to give you an idea off size (big)

Absolutely amazing.... great conversation pieces. Wow.... and you made your own too? A bit of an engineer are you? Wish I had the knowledge to do things like that. I have ideas, but not the know how.

I do however look for books all the time.... I think I must have borrowed each and every book our library can get a hold of on things like automata and wooden toys. There are some great books out there.

There's one called " making mechanical marvels in wood" ..... they aren't toys or useful things, more working models of different types of gears, but made from different timbers.... I'd love to make/have each and every one of them.

there's a second one too..... but the models in that really are way out of what I can hope to make.

Are you buying ready-made wheels or fabricating your own?

And the headlights?

Once I clear some of my current projects, I'd love to start doing some of these. Maybe my 8yr old can have one for his 18th... should have the first one done by then!
